Default 6.5" Speakers too Small for Sail Panel?

I recently bought two sets of Memphis M-Class speakers. I installed everything except the speakers, leaving them for last.. and I run into an issure with speaker fitment.

The speaker frame does meet up with the body, but barely.. the screw holes in the speaker frame are a good .25" away from anything to screw in to. Any suggestions on mounting this speaker? I thought of buying 1/4" MDF and creating a shim.. but I was wondering if anyone else ran into this problem and didn't buy the Crutchfield speaker supports.. I got these speakers locally and they said 6.5" would fit no problem

Am I going to run into this problem up front too?

Thanks

The fbody openings are 6.75" Most 6.5"'s come with adapter rings that go beween the speaker and the mounting surface.

I got some left over from my recent alpine install, but I'm not sure if those will work with 6.5's or not. The alpines fit the holes perfectly in the doors, and after a little bit of centering, the sail panels as well..

Hmm, I may make a call into circuit city to see if they have the adapters I need.. the 1/4" MDF idea sounds good to me, but im worried about raising the hieght of the speaker too much so the tweeter may hit the grille.

Thanks for your input!!

Has anyone else had this issue?

Yea all the documentation at the stores (IE: best buy , circuit city) says 6.5 Well I didnt believe them when they told me that so i brought the stock to the store and matched it up against the speakers onthe wall the sails and doors are 6 3/4" ... dummies almost made me buy the wrong speakers!

See, these forums are good for something after all

Lots of places call the 6.75 6.5 oversized.

My alpine 177R's are labeled 6.5" on the box, yet they fit the stock baffles to a T.

So go figure...

I had the same issue with Infinities in the sail panels. I've seen people make a template of the speaker holes and just drill new ones.

I installed those exact speakers in my doors and sail panels. In the sail panels I had to drill 4 new holes. The factory one`s didn`t line up with the Memphis`s.
