Keyless Entry
Will this give me keyless entry or does the 99Z28 have a seperate keyless entry module like I had on my 95 Z28 like this?

So if I change the BCM for the keyless one and I have a keyfob fine and I can buy and program another fob.
But what about my chip in the ignition key will the BCM recognise that?
Not that I doubt what you say but I read a thread on another board where a guys says he replaced his BCM and he never had it reprogrammed by the dealer.

I will probaly get hung drawn and quartered for posting a link to a thread on another message board but I wanted you to read it and tell me what you make of it.

Unfortunatly the one I am thinking of buying is secondhand so I am not sure if that will react the same as a new one. Like you say because it is secondhand it will probably need to be reprogrammed buy the dealer.
I do have a resistor that is correct for my key as I was thinking of doing remote start at some point. Here is the paragraph on programming BCM.
PROGRAMMING
BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) PROGRAMMING
CAUTION: When BCM is replaced, new BCM will automatically program to
resistance of the ignition key or interrogator setting that
is used the first time ignition switch is turned to RUN
position. This process can only be performed once per
replacement BCM.
NOTE: If replacing BCM with NEW BCM, BCM will be programmed by
manufacturer in a factory test mode. This mode allows only
limited functionality. To exit factory test mode, cycle
ignition switch between RUN and OFF positions 10 times.
After a replacement BCM has been installed, use one of
customer's keys to turn ignition switch to RUN position. Start engine
to verify system operation. If SECURITY warning indicator comes on for
about 5 seconds and then goes out, BCM is programmed properly. If
SECURITY warning indicator flashes (about one flash per second) until
ignition switch is turned to OFF position, BCM did not program. Check
for faulty system components and wiring. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
This was sent to me by the person who is selling his BCM.

I have a picture somewhere that tells me where to put the resistor to bypass the Vats pass key.
Cheers Andy
I took the precaution of buying the 15 resistors which cost me £1.35 ($2.30) for the set.
Sure enough when I connect the BCM the locks all worked fine from the keyfob that came with the BCM but the car would not start.
So I removed the cover under the sterring wheel tolocate the Vats pass key connector, it's a little black connector with two white wires and an orange sheath over them as in this pic.

This guys web site is outstanding and even though most of it is LT1 a lot stuff is the same for LS1 as in this case.

I then tried each resistor in turn until I found the one that let me start the car. The rest just give a security light on the dash and nothing happens when you try to start the car.
So I unplugged it and then I taped the resistor in place (it goes on the white wires with the orange sheath side and I just left the two white wires disconnected)
I made a note of the reading it gave on my Ohm meter before I finished up.
it gave a reading of 9.90 which is number 14 chip
Job done now I have factory Keyless entry.
All I have to do now is get two number 14 chip key blanks and have two new keys cut to restore Vats pass key if I want to.
Or if I'm any where near the one UK dealer who may be able to reprogram my BCM I can get thet done.
