fiberglass box
Also making it look like a "armrest" for the rear as not to draw attention to it and have it be stolen.
Mounted by the bolts for the female end of the seat belts.
What sub do you have and how much air space does it need?
Some 10's need about 0.6cu.ft. Have you measured to see if you can get that much airspace?
Is there enough width to mount the sub in the front of the enclosure or will it have to go on the side?
hence the idea for the "hump mounted" sub
any ideas?
There are boxes out there specifically for the convertible. Have you seen the box that mounts on top of the gas tank in the trunk? I think they can have 2 8"s and it doesn't use much of your trunk space.
Personally, I'd pull out the rear seat and put a box in that area. Verts need all the bass they can as it just goes everywhere instead of being concentrated in the interior.
Another option is an 8" in the passenger footwell. An 8 up there can be very sharp on the percussion instruments, but not so great on the low frequency stuff. It of course depends on the passenger. If you have one and how tall they are. It could be made to be very quickly removed, though.
Tel us what your loads are. Number of passengers, etc... I'm guessing 2 adults up front and 2 smaller kids in back? How often do you have 2 passengers, how often 3, how often 4? Some type of removable box might be a good idea. If for instance you carried 3 people 90% of the time, you could make a box for a single 12 and mount it in the back seat area and make it removable. Then when the 4 passenger needs to ride, pull it out and suffer a short time with no bass. The upside is that the other 90% of the time you'll have nice big bass. So it all depends.

1st issue, Width of the box. IIRC, there is only MAYBE 6" to work with before it gets in the way of someone sitting in the seat. So the sub would have to be firing sideways into your childs ear. Hence I see what you mean about forward firing. Also, a 10" mounts about 4 1/2" to 6" deep. This makes it about impossible from what I can remember. (I've been in Iraq for 4 months now)
Also, if there was anything to go wrong, it would have to be padded very well to protect against bumps or worse.
Man. With out taking a GOOD look at something, I can't say yes or no for sure. BUT, I'm leaning more towards no.
Sub-Thump makes a Box to fit a 10" that sits on the Passenger side. Might be your best bet.
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
50% of the time it is just me
10% it is me and a ft passenger
40% the ft and rear is filled up. (soccer practice, crusing etc)
I thought an arm rest basically filling the hump might be a posibility from cup holder to rear seat back, mabye a pair of 8" firing isobarrically (spelling?)

Also, here is a vert box in the rear. Have you seen these?

I was thinking the Isobaric would be a way to stuff 2 8" into a small box for maximum sound.......would that be an option?
thanks to all responding above by the way
