Default Need help hooking up amp please.

ok well i put some new speakers in my car and i noticed for some reason i don't have a stock amp. (bought the car used). so im trying to hook up a 2 channel amp to the sail panel speakers to see how much it will help. This is my 1st time to hook up an amp so please excuse my ignorance. i know very little about car audio. anyways i got the amp to turn on. there are two slots, one shows L- and L+ so i took the two wires coming of of my alpine left speaker and hooked them up accordingly to the positive and negative slot and the speaker will not come on! and on the other side of the amp there is a deal that says low input and it looks like you plug rca cables into it but i dont have the cables. Is this my problem?? also there is a high input but it looks like you need a special plug in for it..i really wanna get it hooked up today so help would be appreciated..thanks!

car is a 01 T/A

You will need a input signal from the radio so the amp has something to amplify and use for sound. The low level inputs are for a RCA connection from the amp (prefered hook up method) and the high level need a plug that came with the amp so you can hook up the speaker leads from the HU to the amp. You are correct about hooking up the speaker correctly.

you can only use them if you have a aftermarket head unit. What is your HU?

You can try a line converter. It turns a seaker wire input to a RCA input. I dont think Ive seen someone do it though. I would just an aftermarket HU since they are better anyways.

I've used one of those line converters. It worked with no problems at all i would recommend it if u arn't wanting to change ur hu. Easy to hook up and i don't think it cost more than $20.

IF your amplifier has high-level inputs, you should be able to wire the stock headunit directly to those.
