I just bought a pair of Pioneer 4" speakers for the hatch (model:TS-G1041R)
I'm curious if theres any special wiring like with the frontspeakers, or if I can just snip the stock wires and crimp or solder the new wires on.
ALSO:
I'm a bit puzzled on how to take the stock speakers out of the frame. I took the right side out first since its real easy to detatch the spare tire-well cover.
thanks in advance.

UPDATE:
okay i removed the old speakers, but the new ones dont sound right at all. I hear somewhere that I should detatch the tweeter wires.
PLEASE let me know.
I need to know the proper way to wire aftermarket speakers in the hatch.

if u got the stock monsoon head unit, ur sound wont be all that great. the head unit pushes 2 ohms, and *most* aftermarket speakers are 4 ohms, so that may be one reason. as far as special wiring, i dont believe the sail panels are wired any different from normal speakers in an average car (unlike the fronts and rears for camaros/firebirds where the tweets go to a separate location from the woofers.

i AM talking about the REAR HATCH speakers.
That's what I'm concerned with. When I wired them, the tweeters were distorting alot. I tried clipping the tweeter wires as someone recommended...now I regret it, because it sounds worse. I'm pretty sure ican salvage the damages and resolder the tweeter wires if i need to.
ANY suggestions? i have read the front speaker installation guide, but havent seen anything for the REAR-HATCH speakers.

I'm not sure why you're not getting good sound out of them. THere doesn't seem to be a tremendous difference in specs from them and the Alpines I used. When I dropped my Alpine SPS-100A's in I had no problems and the added tweeter they gave me really improved the overall system sound (Camaro hatch speakers are a simple 4 inch midrange, whereas Firebirds have tweeters back next to the mids).

Yeah, I really regret cutting the tweeter wires, but I do believe I can simple solder them back on....hopefully. I'll try that out, if not...then I'll put the stock back in.
Thanks for your help. I ordered some SPS-170As earlier this week...they arrive today..so I'm gonna be re-reading that thread about wiring the door speakers.

Note: Check your speaker polarity. You cannot depend on the stock speakers to be wired RED to (+) and BLK to (-), as one would expect. On the harness side, the (+) wire should be TAN to both hatch speakers in the Camaro Monsoon setup.
FYI: In Firebirds, the wire colors to the 4" mids should be:
GRY = Right (-)
WHT = Right (+)
RED = Left (+)
VIO = Left (-)
