I taped into the lighting on the HVAC so that it is only on when the lights are on

i did not recieve a set of instructions when i got mine... so thanks for posting this thread because i have not thought the far ahead. i will be installing this when i get home from school for spring break. so thanks for the heads up what wires to run the power off of

I used the dimmer wire, the wires in the new wiring harness for the aftermarket radio were labeled.

The gray wire in the factory harness will have power when the lights are on. The brown wire will too, but you can control it with the dimmer switch. If you buy an adapter harness, the wires should be orange, and orange with a white stripe.

according to the posted directions you are supposed to have a red piece that goes over the LED's, i did not recieve this or instructions.. maybe i just didnt pull them out of the box. i hope that's not the case because i already threw the box away...

Wow, lots of replies. I think what is going on is that recently maptech started sending out a lot of units pre-assembled. I guess when that happened they stopped putting in the instructions. That's why half of the guys just getting the mounts in look like lazy idiots. Thanks to everyone for the help. Dimmer wire it is.
Nikeboy, I think that the red lense is only if you have the bulb set up and want it to be red, if you have LEDs or want another color, you don't need it. At least my blue lettering didn't.
