well since the car didnt come with a monsoon stereo, you dont have a stock amp. if you have an aftermarket head unit installed it will sound alot better than your stock one. i would suggest a set or two of aftermarket speakers also because the stock paper cone speakers cant handle sh*t. goodluck man

what sunset said, the new h/u will make the sound much better but if you dont upgrade the speakers they will not sound as good as they could and most likely blow very quickly, just look around on ebay, i got two sets of infinity 6.5's for about $120 shipped, and one set was a component set, good luck

It will sound just as good if not better. You have gotta remember that aftermarket headunits have built in amps, so that will give you more power.

Also, try to buy the best deck you can afford for features you need or might want in the future. To me a deck is about 98% of how your system is going to sound. Wether your using the preouts or the hu speaker outs. You can make swapmeet speakers sound kickass with a good hu. Alot of the higher end decks have built in crossovers for the speaker outs as well as enough power, so you wouldn't need an amp for your regular speakers if you didnt want.

Seeing how you've already got a sub and a amp, go ahead and spend an extra $70 and get a good set of front speakers to go with the new deck. The backs are not so important but if you get a deck and a solid set of fronts, you'll be all set.

aftermarket head units normally produce between 15 and 20 watts, eventhought they advertise 50x4. watts isnt your problem though, it ohm loads. factory sounds systems sometimes use different ohm loads other than the 4 or 2 common ohm loads. a aftermarket headunit will provide 4 ohms and this will make the speakers sound different and could affect the overall life of the speaker. the factory systems are designed together with the speakers to work together well and provide a good sound thoughout a certain wave range. aftermarket head unit will change to harmony. but unless you turn the sound up to its max all the time, you may not have problems. but i would recomend when you have the money to upgrade the speakers as well.

edit. the aftermarket headunit will do wonders for you sub. if you can, get it rewired from the headunit back since now the signal is probly feeding off some other speakers.
