Default How to install aftermaket speakers?

Hello yall, i use to run a subwoofer with my stock moonson system but i been having problems with the subwoofer, so i decided to take it out.

I looking to replace the side horizontal speakers in the back seat side area.

What size are these speakers? Also my stock speakers in that location blew out, and i threw them away long time ago, I was told I that i needed to save the conection wire clips, but trashed them, How can i connect a aftermarket speaker with two pins a ground and power to the wiring clip that has around 5 wires into it to my stock system?

Actually there should only be 4 wires to each stock speaker, two (+) wires and two (-) wires. The stockers were dual voice coil speakers (don't worry about that too much) with the 2 coils wired seperately to the Monsoon amplifier. The speakers are 6.75 inch diameter speakers (also called 'oversized' or 'GM/Chrysler fit' 6.5" speakers).

For replacements, you would simply hook up one of the two pairs of input wires. The stickies at the top of the forum include a link to the pin-out of the Monsoon Amplifier. I would use the wires matching the 'Subwoofer Coil 2' outputs as these are the wires used with the Camaro single voice coil speakers. Although, I have no idea whether it matters which pairs you use. I have seen posts on here in the past stating poor results when bridging the two sets of speaker wires.

I have replaced mine with Pioneer TS-M7PRS midbasses. I think they are an excellent replacement choice. But remember, opinions are like a$$holes: Everyone has one and most of them stink. lol

if you're talking about the rear rear speakers behind the rear seat, dont bother with them. they are 4" speakers and even good aftermarket ones wont be heard with a good sub down in that hatch. just get 2 sets of good 6.5" speakers in the front and rear and it will blow you away.

i thought that it was excuses, not opinions. i consider my "opinions" on some **** more or less fact. the sound you hear from a speaker isnt necessarily the speaker itself. with the right equipment, you can tune any speaker to sound the same, given its the same size. the speaker however can only put out a certain amount of sound at a certain frequency, this is controlled by the construction. the end product is a speaker that will sound better on some frequencies than other speakers will, however that doesnt mean that a speaker built to put out more high frequency sound cant also put out some low frequency sound too.

Well today i got some sony explodes from wall mart 4 channel i think, tried to wire them up birdged at fist then tried them with only pair by pair, and both ways the speakers worked but the sound was very very weak, i therw away the stock wiring clip and was using crimps to secure the wires, i treid both ways and the sound was weak, I wonder what im doing wrong? btw these are the speakers that are the sides in the back seats, not the hatch area.

First, remember that the sail panel speakers in the Monsoon system only produce lower frequencies no matter what speaker you attach. The amplifier has low-pass filters built in. Second, the Monsoon is fairly low powered, so a speaker designed for 60W continuous power, for example, would likely not put out alot of sound with the Monsoon. Just because it fit's in the hole, doesn't mean it fits in with the sound system.

If you want a decent replacement for a fairly cheap price, I suggest the Alpine SPS-17C2. They are $100 at Best Buy, but can be had for as low as $55 on the web. They have fairly good low frequency response and put out equal or better SPL than stock at the same volume setting. I do not know of a cheaper speaker that has been tried with success as a Monsoon replacement. (I use them in the doors of my SS)

I think Sony makes alot of good consumer electronics products. But, car audio equipment is not their forte. (actually, I think someone else builds the stuff for them, they just slap the SONY name on it)

I been reading and it seems everyone is using the rockerford rfp 6.5 subwoofer with good results in the rear sail panel next to the passenger seats.

I wonder if any of these two will work and sound good since the rockfords are discontinued

I tried the sony explodes and tired both wire setups the short and long and even treid to birdge them, ( I just read that bridging them is bad) and the sound was very weak, my headphones are louder

The RFP4406's that have been used in the past were discontinued 2 or 3 years ago. While GM considers the sail panel speakers to be the subwoofers in the Monsoon system, they are not true subwoofers.

Of the speakers you posted, the only speaker brands I consider lower quality than Pyramid are Pyle and Jensen.
