Default How much does adding a stereo decrease performance?

I am thinking about putting a sub box in my car, and I was not wanting to put the "stealth box" in. So, the question was, by installing a sub box, and two Boston Acoustic's 10's and and amp in the rear of the car, how much performance will i lose by adding that weight. I dont want to lose alot, so im not sure if i want to put the system in it. Thanks!

What i did was mount my amp to the back of my box so if i want to take the weight out i just unscrew the box from the floor and unhook the wires and pull it all out as one unit.

Depends on what all that stuff weighs, normally 100lbs is worth .1 in the 1/4, so if the stuff weighs 100lbs add .1 to your time (if you remove 100lbs subtract .1)

well, the rule of thumb is every 100lbs=.1 in the quarter, so do the math. personally even though i like the stock look and slyness of the stealth setup, if heart stopping bass is worth running a 12.4 instead of a 12.3 then go for it.

+-100 pounds = +- one tenth of a second. A system shouldn't weigh more than 100lbs or so depending. Rig it up so that you can take out the subs etc when you wanan go to the track. Goodluck.

I say put the stereo you want in. You might beable to hook up better since you have more weight in the rear. It is true every 100lb=.1, but maybe you can make it up at the 60ft. my .02

Na, I say do it what you want first; work on the performance as you need fit. If your really into it. Try nearly 500 pounds including dynomat.

I was worried about the same thing at first I didnt want to add a system to my car because of performance reasons but the factory monsoon sucks and after buying 2 sets of sail panel subs and infinity 62.7's as sail panel replacement I have decided that I'm going to add 1 10" subwoofer and a amp which will be less than 100 pounds and a aftermarket cdplayer and be done with my system and not loose much performace. I would suggest adding a single sub if you dont want to loose a lot of performance and like ohsofast said adding a little bit of weight in the back might help your 60 ft and some more mods will make you forget about the extra weight.

that is for 100 lbs of stuff, what i did was got a box and ran the wires, that way i could just pull the box and leave all the wires there, and then when i wanted the box back in just hook up the wires. quite simple.
