jl 8wO's in my sail panels.... pics
began enlarging 6.5 hole. used a dremel cutting wheel. make slits on the sides, and bent the tabs back. after massaging it with a hammer, it welcomed the new jl with no problems. the jl doesn't hit the back wall. the taps kinda gave it a litte bit of a spacer.
had to cut off bottom grille holder on the panel and on the grille

1. Not enough depth to mount the sub
2. Not anywhere NEAR the proper enclosure for it, even if it was glassed.
3. Those panels would rattle to high hell and back with the power the W7 puts out.
4. With the excursion that the sub has, it would hit the grill almost all the time under loud volumes or long bass throws.
I would say that either the 8W0 or the 8W1 are about as deep as can go there, maybe even the 8W3, but that would be pushing it for sure. but to the original poster, VERY nice looking!! how does it sound?

it is pretty close, i need to cut a little more off. but the sub doensn't hit it. is sounds pretty good. it would sound a ton better with a real amp. right now everthing is still hooked up to the monsoon amp with all stock wires. so far the hu has been upgraded to the jensen dvd player, (flame suit dawned), jl 6.5 coaxles in the front, jl full range 4"s in the back with the jl 8's in the sails. it's a pretty tight fit.
i've read on another forum of people putting eu-700's in the sails, and those are 6" speakers but take a lot of work to get to fit. i think anything deeper than 3.5 inches with out some sort of spacer, will definately hit the back wall. i didn't have to cut anything but the original hole to accomodate the new speakers.

i'll post some updated pics. i had to trim the plastic panel a little more just to make sure there's no rubbing. i finally got the other one in the passenger side. unless you already have an amp to push them, i'd say hold off on doing this. i like the originality of it. but being that i don't have a real amp, still the monsoon, i'm not getting the hard deep lows that i want. the stock 6.5's sounded better off the monsoon amp. but once i get a real amp, i'll let you know.
does some one have an amp they'd like to get rid of for cheap?

You cut the power out put in half. But it is still the monsoon.

An efficient 4 ohm speaker (such as the Pioneer TS-M7PRS midbasses I have in my sails) can be just as loud or even louder than the 2 ohm stockers at the same volume setting.

My Jensen VM9410 7" flipout has been in my car for over a year now with zero problems.. I love the thing!!! Cheap and plays EVERYTHING. Easy to control as well. way better than the Sony screen I had. I'll buy another one, this time maybe double DIN non-flip out.
