Good idea to mount tweeters in the A pillar?
Would this sound better then in the stock door location (trans am)? I'm talking about this way>> <img src="http://images.cardomain.com/installs/205000-205999/205639_15_full.jpg" alt=" - " />
Thanks,
Justin

I know you want to have the tweeters pointing to the oppisite side and have them cross in the middle, but would bouncing them off them windshield image well? I guess I will find out.

I haven't done it in these cars but in the ones I have heard, the imagining isn't good. The tweets will really drown out the midbass.

For the best soundstage, you want the tweeters as close to the midbass as possible, otherwise you get timing issues , and your tweeters will be off axis with the rest of your music. If you do decide to put them in the pillars, make sure you can atenuate your tweeters through the crossovers. (I think you have Focal's so you will have that option) The best way that I mount tweeters is on a bridge over the mid.

I agree with xssive for the most part. It depends on your receiver really on your options of setting up your tweeters and other speakers for that matter. How flexible is your reciever and other componnents? Are you able to adjust for time alignment and imaging?

I have an Alpine 7875 HU, Focal 165k2s, I.D. 12, 800.4 punch, ID midbass. O have the crossovers set at 0 right now, but will see how they sound at -4. I am going to make a bridge and mount them that way just to see how they sound. Then mount them in the A-pillar and compare.

I have my JL Audio tweets in the pillar and they sound very good. Depending on your front stage they can be great or a nightmare. Mine are there to simply raise the stage up a little to bring it more centered.

Alot of times when you see people put tweets on the pillar like that is cause they are tweeter freaks and like them loud as hell.... by puttin them there it will make them louder cause they are higher up and closer to ya.

The best is obviously the put them in kick panels so that they are almost equidistant from your ears. But in all the setups I have heard, the stock location sounded much better than in the a pillar. But if you can set the imaging, it can sound very good.

I mounted mine up top by the sun visors in the roof lining. The only bad thing is when the sun in front of me and I put them down, I lose the sound of them. But I have rear ones up top facing me as well, so not all is lost.

Re: Good idea to mount tweeters in the A pillar?
The problems that I am seeing with the door locations (at least in the cams) is that my legs get in the way of the signal path and block some of the sound. And when there is a passenger with you their legs block their side and that really bugs me. I am thinking about mounting them in my dash at the base of the A-pillar firing towards the glass???(havent figured that out yet) and having my crossover set to -3(depending on how they sound). That is the best way that I can see getting around the blocking and not making kicks cause I am not loosing that space again like I did in my last cam.

Huh??? I wouldn't even install rear speakers, let alone tweeters!
I like my sound up front. I would put the extra set of tweeters up front, not in the rear!

If you want to get technical, you would need speakers for indivdual tracks laid by the indivdual instruments placed out where the instruments were.. No recording is 100% like a stage presence. Not even 50% in my opinion. Since you can't ever get that true stage presence, you mine as well get a receiver that has time alignment, full crossover and an EQ built in it to at least make up for some of the lost presence you would have. Having a headunit that will allow you to play with all of that, speaker placement almost comes erelavant in my opinion. Everyone is going to feel different about this issue, but no matter what you do, you will never, have true stage presence, believe me, I play music and listen to many of live shows..
