Default Newb stereo upgrade question.

Ok I got couple blown monsoon speakers so i might as well replace all of them with something a little better sounding. I would also like a sub. A 12" would do me fine. Keep in mind I want to still be able to use my ttop storage space. Now im pretty sure Im gonna have to upgrade my amp. Questions are can a get a upgrade amp that will fit in place of the stock one.
Also am I going to have to get a new head unit?

If you still wanna store t-tops you'll have to go with a stealth box, and they can only fit a 10" sub. And theres not an amp that will work in the stock location, the space is just too small for any aftermarket amps. You can get the speakers to replace the stock ones that are mentioned in the sticky and you can just add an amp for a sub.

or if you want a good sound stage and excellent wuality, get some component speakers in the front and mount the tweeter in the pillar, a stealth box with a good 10, and a 4 channel amp. That wil sound real good and be relatively inexpensive.

Thats not going to work all that well, cause the tweeter and the midrange speakers in the doors are crossed over seperatly between the radio amp (tweeter) and the woofer (external amp).

If it was my choice I'd rip out the whole system and go all aftermarket to make things much easier

Stealth box for a 10" so you can keep your T-top storage. Get a nice 4 channel amp and a good set of components. Run the sub off the rear 2 channels and the components off the front 2 channels. It is possable to keep your monsoon head unit but it would be a shame to upgrade everything else and keep it.

If you don't carry your spare tire and jack in the car you could keep the amp there.

You are ripping out the whole system, the only thing left would be the original head unit. It would sound a little distorted but a hell of a lot better than the factory crap. I said in less detail what black01m6ss said.

I know that, but the signals the speakers get in the original setup are crossed over from the h/u.

Get one of those converters that taps into the speaker wires and turns them into a RCA signal, tap into the wires for the sail panel subs and the rear hatch speakers. Leave the door speaker wires alone.

If youre ripping out the mosoon, you're going to rewire everything anyway. And.. you convert the signal over at the headunit to save on buying 2 seperate sets of rca's.

I had a custom twelve inch box made for my shelf behind the rear seats. Sounded and looked good. So you dont need to use your trunk for subs or amp. Just talk to a local custom shop, wouldnt be hard at all. I actually liked it better because the subs were facing foward instead of hitting the glass on the trunk.
