Default New HU with monsoon...!?

Ok well I got a alpine 7894 and I'm gonna wire it to my camaro tomorrow. Is there a wire harness for this or do I have to snap the wires and directly "hard wire" the HU to the stock wires?

PAC pieces are for when you are trying to integrate to the factory headunit. You need a Metra 70-1858 wire harness, a 40GM10 antenna adaptor, and a 99-3300 mounting kit.

Thanks man, I have all that stuff except the "Metra 70-1858 wire harness" since the guy at circuit city said they didn't have one that fits the monsoon... bah now I gotta go there again and get that. (They are at least good people, just need to know a few things better ).

the monsoon uses the same as 90% of 89+ GM cars.

Just ask for one for a 92 bonneville, or a 96 Grand am, i know they're the same.

Ryan.

Damn, well I found out my HU is to powerful for the amp and in time will blow the amp and backfire to the HU (I have the alpine 7894). So I now have to bypass the monsoon amp and wire each speaker directly from the HU... err I hate the monsoon system setup!

Is there any way I can splice the wires that plug into the back of the monsoon with there correct wire. (ie: input power for left front with output power for left front)

One of my friends that works at a car audio install place. He says they bypass the monsoon everytime they want to keep the speakers but change the HU. He owns a camaro and did the same, they once just changed the HU and used a wiring harness to attach it to the rest of the monsoon setup and one week later the monsoon amp and the guys reciver both blew. He told me it happens all the time with people that tell him to do it this way, he said it will always happen, sometimes it does in a week or in a yr, but it always happens.

I disagree with your friend. Ive been doing this professionally for 10 years. Never seen that happen with the monsoon. Plenty of fbodies running around Atlanta area that Ive done and not one have had that problem. Throw the deck in as you would a normal install. It will be fine.

Hmmm well I have 3 choices now (one is kinda weird).

1) My fav right now: Get new front and mid speakers and wire them directly to the new HU (not have any speakers in the back).

2) Go against what 2 people told me and get a wire harness and plug new HU with monsoon amp.

3) Hard wire the HU without the amp, take the plug that goes to the amp and figure which wire goes with which and sodder together.

To many choices!

Ok, I decided to screw tring to bypass the amp, to much friggen work. So I'm either gonna get the harness and plug it in with the monsoon or uprage the front and mid speakers... the only problem is how hard is it to remove the dorr panels and put them back on? I read how on the LS1 car audio FAQ and it sounds easy... but how easy will it really be if I've never done it before?

Kevin (hey its my name to ), but I gotta say thanks for all your help so far.

No problem. These questions have come up time and time again. This thread was started as a FAQ for the monsoon on the "other site". It has all sorts of information for the questions that keep popping up. Monsoon FAQ
