Default Monsoon worth it????

I was wondering if the Monsoon stereo is worth the money? I was planing on upgrading the receiver and the speakers along with two 10's and a nice amp.

Should I look for a car with a Monsoon or just find one with the basic stereo and upgrade that?
Thanks guys

If I had to do it over again, I would look for one with the basic stereo, The monsoon is ok if you're 62 or so. But it lacks a lot!! I would go ahead and plan on getting a mid to upper $$ range headunit, some good speakers and a single 12 and amp. Atleast that's what I'll be doing sometime in the near future Good luck!!

I was wondering why people called it old man monsoon LOL.

Do you know what receivers have the option to control your subs??? As in where you can add and lower the power to the subs and keep the volume of your regular speakers the same? I do not want to have to crank the volume to get some nice bass or have to mess with the amp to get it

I would also like to have one that has the digital display that rotates 360 degrees . I know Pioneer (spelling?) has at least two.

Most of the pioneer head units will have what you are looking for. I would definitely go Pioneer if I had to buy a new headunit. If you want the Organic Electro Luminescent display I'd go with one of the following
Pioneer DEH-P6400
Or go higher in $$ and more features with:
Pioneer Premier DEH-P740MP
OR My fave:
Pioneer DEH-P8400MP
The last one is what I have in my Tahoe with my 12" infinity sub and MTX amp, it sounds SOOO sweet!!

Oh, and to address the controlling the sub from the deck, once you get it setup right, you shouldn't have to adjust it much Unless you go from listening to country to rap. Now that would be an odd switch. Pioneer's are really easy to adjust once you get the hang of it though, you can't go wrong with pioneer.

The second one is what I was looking at . I will have to look into the third one. Just now I have one of the newer JVC models in my 86 and its great but blows on the stock and blown speakers, 45w 4 channels blah blah blah.

I am looking at a few Kenwood speakers now but i have no clue what I want when it comes to subs, I thought about a tube but I doubt I will get one.

A tube would be the easiest to install in a Camaro/TA, since you don't have to build a box. You can get a powered Tube for around $250??? or so. That should be all the bass you would want, it won't blow your windows out but it should be plenty As for the other component speakers, if you're going pioneer headunit, why not go pioneer speakers, they aren't that much more than kenwoods, and you get better quality in my opinion. Unless you just wanna go all out and put some Polk, or Infinity Kappa's in there that's big $$ though. Anyway, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask away.

Kappas would be nice but I do not want to rape my wallet that much. I have been going back and forth between Pioneer and woods, the tube would be nice because it takes up less room and you do not have to worry about a seperate amp so when you want to pull it to go racing or somethig then it is easy to pull it out.

Ok I have to figure out where I am going to put all this stuff, bass tube, Nitrous bottle and still keep the spare and jack in. Maybe mount the tube at the floor of that "hole" in the back and mount the bottle just above it. I thought about mounting the bottle where the back seats are (where) but the cops tend to frown on that.

Do you know of any speakers that are known for having good highs????

To get good highs you're gonna need tweeters. You could get decent highs by going with some 2-3 way speakers in your doors. Pioneer makes a very clean 3way. I've never had any luck with kenwood anything.

About the bottle and Tube. I've seen many F-Bodies with the tube right behind the rear seat on top of the rear axle, and then the bottle mounted in the "hole" with it in the hole, it's easier to hide.
