i didnt think it would happen to me :(
my pas. window motor is 98% dead. it was going really slow today, then stopped when i was pushing it. it moved a little after i tried a little while later. is the only thing i can do is take it to a dealer? i dont want to have to go back in a couple months and have them do it again.
its an 01.

It's wierd how so many new f-bodies are having this problem, yet my 95 Formula is still on it's original window motors. Did GM go with a different supplier in the last couple of years? The 01s and 02s seem especially trouble prone.
will they screw up the door panels to hell? i hate to bring it in there and have them have some "fun" with my car now <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> . maybe i can put the cats on and they wont even hear the lope <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
I think that dealers are so used to changing these motors now that they can put the doors back together so well that you'd never know the difference.

First thing you want to do is check the window switches. The piece of the rocker that activates the switch is very flimsy. That's what the problem was with my "bad window motor".
The window would go up very slowly then die. After several minutes I could put it up a little more. I checked the switch and it was just barely working.
Check yours and you'll see what I'm talking about. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
The switches are like $10-$12 at a dealer. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

GM window motors SUCK. I used to manage a repair shop and we had GM cars coming in everyday with dead window motors.
FYI, GM has used the same style motor in the f-bodies since 82. The only change since was the way it is mounted...internals are the same.

I had my motor replaced on the drivers side by the dealer(under warranty) and eversince then when the window goes down the damn thing makes a ton of noise, it works but it's starting to **** me off I think I will end up taking it back before my warranty is up. good luck
If you're out of warranty, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROBLEM TO A DEALER. Find a reputable auto shop or do it yourself. Normally, a Chevy dealer in MD will charge over $400 for this repair. This is not a misprint. Jerry's chevrolet in Timonium charged a friend of mine $417.22. Len Stoler Chevy in Westminster gave me an estimate of $431.00. The part is about $50.00. It takes less than one hour to put it in.

Just remember to check your switches first. They are cheap little POS switches and if they are half-broke it'll seem like the motor is dead or going dead.
If they are the problem you can get them from the dealer for less than $15. They're also alot easier to replace. <img border="0" alt="[judgement]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" />
I know the window motors are a POS also but, sometimes its just the switch.
Just a heads up that might save you some time and money. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
