Default Confused.. iPod hardwire to 98 Monsoon.

I have searched and read through some posts regarding hardwiring an iPod to a 98 Monsoon unit and I'm still confused. What is the best/cost effective way to hardwire my iPod to my Monsoon unit? Can I splice an RCA in there? (I know this wont charge it, obviously charging it would be great but not a nessecity) What are my options.. if you have links to products please dont hesitate to post. (I also have a FM unit for it, but I honestly don't like it too much.

FM unit sucks, and if someone has an idea that doesn't cost $60, i'm all in!

What costs $60? That'd be worth it to me!

the GM9-AUX unit is $60-100 bucks i think

and there is an iPod2Car that plugs into the GM9-AUX wiring harness

basically the GM9-AUX harness plugs into your CD changer input in the back of your head unit... and then you get either the iPod2Car adapter or the GM9-AUX - to - RCA adapter.

the iPod2Car is over $100.

Yea, from what I've read though, I can't use the GM9-AUX with the 98 Monsoon headunit, well at least a CD unit.

That's correct - none of those auxiliary or iPod adapters will work with a CD head unit prior to mid-99. They work with all cassette head units but only CD HUs from late-99 or newer models.

Without replacing the head unit your best option is a hard-wired FM modulator. They give much better performance with less interference than the wireless ones. Be sure to get a good one - the cheap ones don't cut off interfering local FM stations.

Hmmmm, you are right. I missed that little detail. I went on their web-site, and it said that 95-99 HU does not have CD changer control. Sorry 'bout that!

USA Spec makes one for the 98-02 Fbody. Just put one in. It was 139 but I'm sure you can find it cheaper. It also added an extra input. You can't ths and the factory changer but since I didn't have the factory changer it was no big deal to me.

If you check on USA Spec's web site you'll find that their adapter has the same model restrictions as everyone else. They list general compatibility with GM models 97-02 but when you look at their detailed compatibility list it shows only cassette head units up to 1999 and then both cassette and CD head units after that.
