Default Few Electrical Questions

1. I have heard about the 4 headlight mod. could someone point me to a write up on how to do that? i searched and was unsuccessful. i stumbled upon the fog/highbeam mod. i want to do everything at once.
2. Can the sensitivity/operation of the factory security system be changed. i mean, i had the alarm set but the windows down, opened the door and got stuff out and shut the door pretty hard and it didnt go off. I also unlocked the door with the key with the alarm set and opened it and it still didnt go off. im beginning to wonder if the alarm would do any good if someone tried to break into it. i want it to be more sensitive. i wnat it to go off if the door is opened when the alarm is set.

1. The easiest way to do the four headlight mod is to just connect the yellow wire to the tan wire at the dimmer switch near the bottom of the steering column.

2. Sounds to me like you don't have a factory alarm or it's been programmed off. Not all cars came with the alarm - some only had keyless entry and some had manual locks. Check for option code UA6 on your door sticker to see if you have the alarm system. The factory alarm should go off when you open a door regardless of how the shock sensor is set.

I wouldn't recommend cutting the wires (never cut wires if you don't have to). Just insert a "patch" wire connecting the tan and yellow wires together. The dimmer switch is a flip-flop - it receives power through the yellow wire and sends it out through the tan wire for lowbeams or through the light green wire for highbeams. Connecting the tan wire to the yelow wire means the lowbeams will be on regardless of the dimmer switch position so the switch becomes a simple on/off for the high beams. This is the equivalent of the way Firebirds are wired from the factory.

As Blk00TransAm said, you probably need to reprogram the alarm to arm. You probably want to change the "theft deterrent arming method" to either mode 2 or mode 3. Instructions are in your owner's manual and posted here.

Yes, that's all there is to it. Just take a short piece of wire and connect one end to tan and the other end to yellow. If you get a couple of those scotchlock crimp-on connectors you'll only need a pair of pliers to make the connections.

On the left side of the steering column you'll see a black connector with 11 positions in a single row (not all of the positions are used). Just forward of that you will see a smaller square connector plugged into the column. That connector has the wires you need.
