Default Good Radar Detectors

Last time I used a radar detector was probably around the mid to late 80s, and I got busted by a cop who detected it then confiscated it. Since then, I never used one aghain and I haven't even kept current with the technology.

Can someone tell me what is the best radar detector available these days? Can they still be "detected" by police? Any recommendations appreciated.

Valentine 1 is the only way to go. It is the only radar detector with two sensors...one for the front and one for the rear. It also has arrows that tell you which direction the signal is coming from and a counter that shows how many signals the detector is picking up. It is expensive at $400, but WELL worth the money.

Valenteen 1 is my first choice also. But Bel has one model that rates very well and of course solo is rated very well too.

Valentine 1, Escort X50, or Bel RX65

They can be detected by police, but are you in a place where they are illegal? They are illegal in much of Canada and in VA. If they are illegal where you are, then get a Beltronics STI Driver.

I prefer my Escort X50 to the Valentine 1 a co-worker has... and the Escort is less expensive.

Definitely NOT the over-rated Valentine 1 as it falses CONSTANTLY and gives initially a false sense of paranoia, followed by a sense of numbing security and eventually ignoring the unit completely.

I recommend the somewhat older Bel Vector 985. More recent Bel radars use the rather intermitently-performing Escort/Passport software.

On several personal tests, the V1 falsed endlessly, intermitently, and randomly, even when turning off X-band (pretty much something you want to do since there are no police in the US that use that frequency anymore since 2001). The Escort models were better, but certain known false-alarm areas near shopping malls SOMETIMES it would false, and sometimes not. Didn't make me feel very safe. Range was random on stationary "Your Speed Indicated" posts, sometimes within 1/8th of a mile, sometimes, almost 1 mile. Bel Vector models tend to be consistant with range and falsing-areas are continuous and predictable and the same intensity-levels.

True, but sometimes it is the 40 on 30 that will screw you. I never speed anyway, thats not what growns up do. Not!

Another vote for the Valentine 1, got it a year ago.... pricey but works like a charm here in NY, it has saved me numerous times with my 5% Limo window tint, no front plate and loud *** exhaust (all illegal here in NY and especially in my town where the cops pull you over for no reason at all!)

valentine 1 is the best , i have one and also have a escort 8500 x50 ,both are excellent detectors but the v-1 is a cut above.just knowing what direction the cop is is a huge advantage

Do NOT get the V1 if you live in an area where radar detectors are illegal. There is only one detector that is truly undetectable called the Beltronics STi Driver. It is an expensive unit, but it's also the the best on the market.

If you are not worried about your detector being tracked by police then there are three excellent detectors on the market, Escort, V1 and Beltronics RX65.

This site has endless info on RDs:

Because it goes off a mile down the road and If I dont feel like getting harased then I can pull off a side street or slap the plate up in the window. A year and a half ago I pulled over b/c I had a tinted cover over my plate, then he proceed to nail me for tinted windows. And then about a year ago I got nailed again for no front plate, this time by a state trooper! needless to say since I've gotten the V1, no tickets, no pulled over and not even any looks from cops passing by.... all in all I think it saves me!
