I might need to get a second batt. but I didn't really want the extra weight nor did I want to get a cap. but I think since installing my underdrive pulley my 1,000 watt mono amp isn't getting the power to run the sub. Any ideas would be great.

I was thinking of getting the second batt. for the reason WHITEBIRD spoke of, I do alot of oversight for my company in my camaro, so sitting around is a big part of my system. If the overdrive pulley will help out then I would like to try it out.
I have never heard of an overdrive pulley for the alternator, kinda understand thr principle. Where can I find a overdrive pulley for the alternator?

My amp was not getting enough power to run the subs so I bough another battery and everything works great. I have a Audiobahn a2300hct and it would turn on then shut off right away, i added a second battery and it runs with ease.

Since adding my underdrive pulley my amp wasn't powering the sub at all. At a job site I had trouble getting my car started after an afternoon of sitting in the rain listening to the system waiting for the rain to stop. After a jump the car started up fine and no problems since.
Currently the motor is out of the car and I'm just trying to fix a few things, low budget while I put together a motor. The amp is less then three months old and is getting power, no blown fuses, the sub works great, so I'm feeling that the reason the sub isn't hitting is not getting the power it needs. By no means am I an expert on amps and subs so any help would be appreciated.

ok, do you have any issues with the car running ? While the engine is on, doe you notice any problems with the amp cutting off, or voltage dipping ?
If yes... then lose the underdrive pulley, or see if you can get an overdrive pully on the alt to bring it back up to speed. If that still doesn't help, then a bigger alternator is the ticket.
If you are only experiencing problems with the engine off, then it is most likely a battery issue. What kind of battery do you have ? If you often listen to the system with the engine off, you may be draining your battery past what it can handle. The more often you do this, the worst it gets. To solve this, I would replace your battery with one designed to handle cycling, like an Optima Yellow top. If one doesn't handle your load, then you need to look at paralleling 2 together.
It could also be a combination of the 2, where you drain your battery down listening to the stereo, but once started, your alternator does not have the ability to recharge the battery as quickly as before. This could especially be the case if you mostly drive the car in short trips, or spend alot of time at idle. In this case, getting your alternator to spin back at stock speed, AND upgrading your battery is the solution.
personally, I recommend that anyone with a high current system not use under drive pulleys.
good luck!

Mike what would you recommend for an upgraded alt? I experience the most problems running the car and stereo power loss over time of the cruise.
