Sail Panel Speakers
Im having some trouble with these speakers. I bought 6.5 Infinity Reference's and they sound absolutely terrible. i think it is cause they are 4ohm and the stock stereo is 2ohm? i am lost as to what speaker si should get and can use any help. thanks -dave-

It depends on how you wired them and what you expect from them. The factory sail panel speakers are subs and are fed only low frequencies from the amp. So if you just connected your new speakers to the existing wires then you'll only get bass from them (the tweeters will do nothing). If you want only bass from the sail panel then there are better choices for replacement speakers. If you want full range sound then you should pull the hatch speaker wires forward to the sail panels and connect them to your new speakers.

the Infinity reference are single input full range speakers, since the signal going to the sailpanel is lows only, I can't see how they could possibly be bright. If anything the tweeter is probably poping and sounds like crap. I run Infinity 62.7i's and they sound pretty good in there. But they are dual inputs and I get the highs from the hatch.

1.) The problem is not that they are 4 ohm speakers.
2.) With proper wiring the speakers will provide similar bass volume levels to stock, and it will be cleaner. It will not, however, be significantly louder. As whitebird suggested there are also methods to make them run full range (bass and treble) should that be what you want.
3.) Realize that since they are 4 ohm speakers, you are going to have to set your fader differently (more towards the back) than before. The speakers will play just as loud but some adjustment like this is necessary to rebalance things.
Please post up the exact speakers you bought (and if possible, a picture of the back of them). Along with a better description of what you don't like from the sound right now.
Then we can help.

If you're determined to have it sound like stock, why not buy stock replacement speakers? You can get them from gmpartsdirect for about the same price as the Infinitys or even cheaper in the for sale section here or on eBay.

Any chance you have one/both of them hooked up out of phase?
By the time they reach the point of distortion they should have similar bass output to stockers. If they are greatly lacking then I would double check your wiring.
I will say if you are not pleased with the sound of these - you will likely not be pleased with the 2 ohm infinities, either. The end sound levels will be similar.
If you just want bass your money would be a lot better spent on even a very modest sub. A tiny little 8" self-amplified bazooka tube can be had for the same amount of money off the bay, and you won't have too worry so much about it wearing out like stockers. Many people are ok with the sound of their stockers but being that they are pretty hit and miss for durability I think it is good advice to fix it right the first time.

Did you cover up the hole under the speaker hole? Under the sailpanel speakers there is a square notch cut out for the wires to run to the speakers(not sure why gm did this instead of running them from the back side). If this hole is not covered air will escape and make them sound bad. Also, I put some sound deadening in the speaker hole to cover some areas. I have the Infinity 62.7i's in the sailpanels and doors and I think they sound very good. I have had people comment on how good the stereo sounds and how clear it is. I had the exact same same reference speakers in my wifes old car and was running off the hu only, it sounded pretty good for only hu and speakers, but sounded like just the hu was pushing them to the speakers limits.
