Alpine is top notch....I have a older high end one in the SS, and a new 9857 in my daily driver.

Ya me too. How much did you pay for that. And like he said what do you think. I'm comparing this to a pioneer but i am really leaning heavy toward the Alpine. Any insight would help me also.

Thanks

The CDA-9856 is a decent HU. It has the basic functions that most people would use. Things like "full speed" Ipod connection, Bass Engine, BBE, MP3/WMA, XM/Sirius and so on. Alpine did go the wrong way with the motorized face. I have the CDA-9835 and the "tilt" is a nice feature in the TA. Just an idea, if you use the humount hardware, the install will look even better. For those looking at the 2006 line of Alpine HU's, the buttons are "blue" only. The multicolor illumination was discontinued in 2006. Did you retain the steering wheel controls?

Yeah, the buttons are only blue. Looks kinda outta place but doesn't bother me. Didn't retain the steering wheel controls, but my buddy is going to fix that for me.

What would I need to do to get it back.

Ditto on the Alpine HU

I recently installed the 9857. The iPOD controller is great.

The only thing that's sub par in my opinion is the detachable face. That thing is a PITA to put back on. Does the 9856 have the same issue?

The SWI-ALP can only be used if the HU has a 3.5mm miniplug on the backside of the HU. The 9856 does not have this connection and the SWI-X will be the correct adapter.

BTW, the only Alpine Models that will be able to use the SWI-ALP are: CDA-D853, CDA-D855, CDA-D857, CDA-9851, CDA-9853, CDA-9855, DVA-9865 and DVA-9860

I want to replace the front speakers and sail panel subs now. But not sure what to do because of the Monsoon amp. Heard some people have issues.

SWI-X is a cinch to install. There are only 3 wires with the Pontiac Steering Wheel Controls. All you have is +12Vdc, Ground and signal connections. I used the +12Vdc ACC for the power supply. The signal wire (green) plugs into the stock harness. Then you will need to position the IR transmitter and program the module.

Ah, at the crossroads Do you replace everything or do you keep the Monsoon equipment? At least there is an option to add a sub and THAT makes a really nice to low end performance.

Is the big issue the fact the stock speakers run at 2ohms and most aftermarket speakers run at 4ohms??
