its hard to convert from a wma, but you can convert mp3s to anything pretty easy if thats what you are trying to do, all my **** is expensive though and i doubt you want to pay for any programs if thats all you are doing...

Its called WINAMP lol Play it under the "Nullsoft Disk Writer" feature. Hit CTRL+P Goto Output, save where-ever. My advice is turn off the EQ when you do this, AND repeat! Then play the first track in your list, it'll convert to WAV. Then load up your fav MP3 encoding software and convert to MP3.

ANY Sound file WinAMP can play, it can make a WAV file out of em. Then you convert to MP3 My MP3 player wont play MP4s, so I had to do that. I'm a computer need - - grease monkey though, so thats easy for me.

If you're using a recent version of one of the leading CD burning packages (Nero, Easy CD Creator, etc.) you shouldn't have to convert the files. Just tell the software that you want to burn an audio CD and it will automatically convert the MP3 files on-the-fly as it's burning the disc.

BTW, unless you have an aftermarket head unit, the format you want is WAV not WMA. The factory head unit won't play WMA files any more than it will play MP3 files. For that matter, I don't know of an aftermarket head unit that can play WMA but not play MP3.

+1, I really think everyone replying was completely missing that he needs WAV not wma

its not hard to convert to audio format to another but if its lossy like mp3, aac, ogg or wma (non-lossless) converting to another lossy format will degrade the quality furhter
but converting lossless music like flac, ape, wma lossless, apple lossless, and wave to another format will only degrade the quality if the conversion is to a lossy format

Oh right I forgot Nero does that converting during burn as well. Good call

My way just gives some quality control. If it's a high qual WMA, you can then make it a high qual MP3 in return. Don't know what Nero does for changing or user control since I've always done it myself.

Whitbird is right, you need to have an MP3 HU to play them, and all MP3 HU's I've seen play WMA as well. If it says it plays CD-R's that does NOT mean audio format. Just means you can burn your own music CD (which as white said, is WAV format when you burn) and it'll play it.

Nero is pretty easy to use, but does a lot more than just do mp3/wma conversions. I vote for that.

actually you cannot, if you convert mp3 to wma, then the quality will be much worse than if you re-ripped the CD to wma
a high quality wma converted to mp3 or vice versa will result in a low quality mp3/wma
because the audio source(mp3/wma) will first be expanded to wave before being compressed back to wma/mp3 (and these lossy formats remove bits of music)

Look up windows digital media enhancements - Window Audio Converter
yeah probably any converter will work fine for converting if you need, and this one is free

Oh right I forgot Nero does that converting during burn as well. Good call
yeah but thats converting to wave not wma!!!
and it will not be the same quality as the original CD

again nero will be fine but conversion between lossy formats is retarded
and as formula350 said all H/Us that can play wmas can play mp3s

That's exactly the point. From the original question it would seem that he wants to convert his MP3 collection so that he can play it in his car. Since every head unit that can play WMA can also play MP3s it would seem that he has a head unit that can't play either MP3 or WMA (otherwise he could just play his MP3 collection directly). So he really needs to burn standard audio CDs which would be MP3->WAV or just burn-on-the-fly from MP3s like Nero can do.
