Default got new sub. not very impressed

well i picked up two kicker cvr 12's (buy one get one free at circuit city). And im not very impressed with it. Its being powered by a MTX 4002 amp. It puts out 200w x 2 at 2ohms. and the sub is dual 2 ohm voice coils at 200w a peice. i might just have it wired wrong but i dont think so. its sounds clean and smooth and it goes low. but its not hitting real loud. i want louder!!!! when i read reveiws people were saying how hard it hits. lol.

**** cvr's, you shoulda got comps. That amp isnt the best in the world either, I hate to see what you paid for all that. I have 2 fosgate 12's and Punch 250 watt amp in my ta and the car is about to rattle apart.

even cheap 12's should be extremeley loud in the hatch........ Im guessing your underpowering them by quite a bit.

The amp is too small for those subs. Also, what box do you have them in? The CVR's need a decent size box to be effective. The MTX Amp is 200x2 RMS or 400x1 RMS. You will need the 4 ohm DVC's to get the proper load to the amp. The subs are 50-400 Watts RMS each and the amp that size should be powering just one sub.

yeah take the cvr's back and get comps. Much better responce. And you dont need as much airspace and needed with the cvr's. I have a kicker hookup, how much did u pay for the amp and subs??? Just curious.

well the amp i only paid like 115 for along time ago. but i just bought the subs the other day for 120 for both. i geuss i was just expecting too much. i might take them back. I only have one running off the amp, its in a sealed box with about 3 cubic ft of air space under it.

ported box makes a huge difference especially custom built. prefab's are crap.

ok if the sub is dual 2 ohm you probably do have it wired wrong and your clipping the amp when it tries to hit hard. This will make the amp limit the incoming current as to not fry it. The amp is only stable down to 2 ohm stereo. That means you probably have it wired into 1 ohm mono. try this diagram:
This will wire you sub into 4 ohm mono feeding it the best wattage possible out of that amp.

I always run 8 gauge and lower (smaller the number, larger the wire).

The thing here is the amp is 4-ohm bridged which is what he needs to wire the subs as. The subs are dual 2-ohm. So the subs are the issue as they cannot be wired correctly to show the amp an 4-ohm load (either 2 8-ohm subs in parallel, or 2 2-ohm subs in series). You can only wire each sub into a 1-ohm or 4-ohm load. Thus, he is only going to get half of the power of the amp.

Even if each subs gets it's own channel, it could only present a 4ohm load to that channel (since amp is only 2 -ohm stable in stereo mode). Thus each subs get about 100 watts.

You need either 2 4-ohm SVC subs, or 4-ohm DVC subs (so they can be configured as either 8ohm or 2 ohm loads). Or get an mono-block amp that is 2-ohm stable is bridged mode.

Here is a link to sub wiring wizard:

Hope this helps

Default pics are here

Success!!!!!!!!!!! I did some tuning with the amp and flipped the sub upside down. So now the magnet faces up. All i can say is DAMN, it makes me wanna in a good way. lol. but seriously it kicks hard. Thanks for the input and the diagrams i also had it wired to the sub wrong. Im gonna put picks up in a few minutes, its a pretty clean look except a few wires.

this is the back

here is the amp

and another of the sub

ill post pics of the box when i find them. Its not a "box" its 3/4 in mdf cut to fit in the hatch area ( i dont have t-tops) and a big hole for the sub. Easy, Cheap like 40 bucks cheap for everything, and sounds great.

Maybe you think it sounds great... but at BEST you have an infinite baffle... and not even that because of what you don't have sealed on the sides. VERY few subs run well or even near their best in infinite baffle setups.

My buddy and I both work at CC and he picked up 3 CVRs bc we get them cheap. He had a custom box made and special ordered a kicker amp rated around 1400 watts. All I can say is that he had the loudest trans am Ive ever heard. Those speakers are far from crap.
