Default Mounting amp on HUMP in Hatch

I just put a small amp and subthump in my car and I love it, but where the shop mounted the amp on the back deck, the screws didn't hold because they put in screws that were like 1/4" long. Can I just get a slightly larger screw to put them there, or do I have to worry about the gas tank. I searched and it seems like most people put a piece of wood under the carpet and then mount the amp to that...wouldn't the wood still move? Can I not just screw it in? Please post pics and any advice on the subject. Thanks.

yes, the gas tank is right under that metal. The shop that installed your amp should not have drilled there, as it's very easy to puncture the plastic gas tank.

so, you definately do not want longer screws.

I would use a liquid contrsuction adheasive like liquid nails to glue a wooden board down, and then screw your amp into that.

awesome man. My buddy is the owner of the ship so hopefully that's y he used such small screws and they didn't go thru. It looked like it barely even held to the carpet since they were so short...i guess i need to pull up the carpet and take a look...thanks mike

holy ****...i didn't realize it was that close...i just looked and u can see where he put the screw thru the metal (he didn't predrill it) but the screw was only 1/4" and I am not sure if the hole is all the way thru. I think I got lucky cause i couldn't smell any smoke and I don't think it went that far in it.

I just removed the child car seat anchor brackets and used the threaded holes along with longer bolts to bolt down my piece of wood. Although I -think- 2000 was the first year for those child seat anchors.....

yes, if you have a 2000+, the child seat anchors are ideal.

Man I got a 99 so that's not in the picture. I think I am just going to get the subthump for the rear wall...cause I don't like the idea of it sitting on the back deck where everyone can see it...could i just screw it into the back wall or so i need to have a piece of wood there?

get some MDF board, place it under your carpet on the hump and bolt the amp to it, the weight of the board should keep the amp in place.

Smile Securing amp over hump where tank is at?!

Yes,you can do it!! There is roughly a 1/2" spacing between the steel body and the glass-encased gas tank. I currently have a Bazooka subwoofer bolted down with full clearance, no leaks ,no issues. Just make sure you use the right length screws not exceeding 1".
