MTX Subwoofer....Cutting out?

MTX Subwoofer....Cutting out?

Ok....so heres the deal...I just bought the z about 2 months ago. It has the stock system with an MTX sub in the left rear compartment. When i turn it up and im listening to it for a bit it will cut out randomly. I dont know what amp its connected to. I do know its a small two channel Rockford fosgate amp, im assuming bridged. Im not too familiar tweaking stuff like this so any info will help with a road trip coming up. Thanks. Any add'l info. required let me know. thanks again!

It only happens when you turn it up? Then the amp is probably overloaded - either not getting enough cooling or, more likely, it's a DVC 4-ohm sub hooked up as a 2 ohm load to an amp that can only handle 4 ohms when bridged.

Thats what everyone is saying b/c i turn it down...then after a minute or so itll come back and start to thump again. how would i go about fixing that?

You can do the easy thing and just run it off one channel.

Or you can take the sub out and see if it is a dual or single voice coil sub. Then go from there.

No, don't use one channel - instead, put the voice coils in series, not parallel. You'll lose headroom from the amp (you would also lose headroom if you only used one channel), which may or may not be a problem depending on how much power the amp is rated for.

Or you could just get a monoblock amp and/or a new subwoofer more suited to your current amp (DVC 2-ohms or SVC 4-ohm).
