Steve is a dealer for them. Of course he's going to recommend them.
There's other speakers that sound good in his box too. I can think of 4 others off hand.

Personally, I'd recommend Elemental Designs. I have one (the old flat-cone style) and it rocks. it is a 12" in a custom made stealthbox with a total airspace of about .8 cubic feet without the sub installed. After the sub is installed it is more like .6 cubic feet. I am feeding it 500w RMS from an old-school Fosgate mono amp, and it slams. I have had comments from people saying that it sounds like a pair of 12"s or 15"s, and they are shocked when they see the hatch. For an explanation of T/S parameters and what they mean, see THIS.

Without T/S it would be impossible to build an optimum enclosure for any speaker, I don't care what car you put it in. It is incomprehensible to me that most installers today think you can just build a box that fits and throw any speaker you want into it and expect it to perform. I am not trying to start a debate or a diatribe here but the manufacturers do give you those specs for a reason.

Usually you can get away with a larger or smaller enclosure size (10%) on a sealed box, but a ported box has to be tuned right (port length, diameter, etc.) to sound good. One thing I really hate is Best Buy selling the premade bandpass boxes.
