Default Need Help

Ok well I want to get a better head unit....I want one that will light up like the stock red dash lights do....I also want to put better speakers in all the way around....And I will be buying a stealth setup with amp...

Now I dont want to spend a lot of money, as I dont care to much about music...I just want it to sound nice...

I also want to be able to keep the stock steering wheel controls....

Can someone recomend some things that will meet my needs?

Sorry I know NOTHING about stereos....NOTHING....

honestly....why would you want someone else to plan YOUR system for YOU??? You want a red glowing HU.....look around web sites - that's what I would have to do to answer that question. You can keep the stock steering wheel controls - look at the FAQ (second thread), I believe it's the first number that will provide info on that. You don't want to spend a lot of money? -shop SonicElectronix.com You want to install it this weekend? -call a friend who knows more about audio to help you with the install. As far as brands, anything will sound nice to you if you really don't care about music....but stay away from the cheapest stuff -- stay more mainstream brands that everyone knows about (Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, etc...I'm not listing high end stuff and know these brands aren't the best, but they are the typical brands you will see at that site, and will meet your needs). As far as rear sail panel speakers though, I can't help but plug the eu700s again (especially since you have a Pontiac) - here for more info > https://ls1tech.com/forums/wiring-stereo-electronics/639901-install-guide-w-pics-upgrading-factory-monsoon-subs-6-5-ones-ed-eu700s.html

Do you have the Monsoon system? (6 speaker locations?) -- for the front doors, I was always against the Infinity 62.7i's, but now that I see that there actually is a crossover somewhere for the tweeters, they would be the easiest replacement for you - even though it would be advisable to use their crossover, people have had success without doing so. And disconnect hatch speakers before/when they blow, at least disconnect the midrange component as it usually distorts at any reasonable volume....at least on the Camaros it does...

yes 6 speakers...I dont know **** about this 2ohm and 4ohm I dont know what all that means....I just want a decent setup....I read all the facts and dont understand what alot of it meant.... Yeah I saw that thread after I posted this....

Basically I just need to know what speakers to buy....I just want a better head unit, 10" sub and amp, and better quality speakers that dont sound like **** at high volume...

I just dont know what all goes together and what doesnt....So im asking for opinions....the only thing I have ever done is buy some cheap HU and some cheap sony speakers for my old civic....

Ignore all of that......ignore impedances as well...

Easiest thing for you to do without running new wires and making it as plug and play as possible are: Infinity 62.7i's for the front doors (or ANYTHING if you don't mind losing a little volume....and I'm not referring to loss due to higher impedances, but because you'd only be using 2 of the 4 wires unless you want to cut apart your speaker...which may be difficult depending on the style), eu700s as I mentioned in the sails....idk why you are set on those older RFs - ebay someday if you really want them....but as far as I know - that was a replacement that was intended for the Camaro due to voice coil differences....

Recommended by who and for what reason? Sorry...I tried briefly trying to find the thread you were talking about...

EDIT: You have a Pontiac....you will need eu700s in the sails, or find another dual voice coil sub to put there.........as far as I recall, those RFs are SVC and you won't find them anyway... As for the fronts -- do what you want...I don't know exactly how the tweeter is mounted in Pontiacs so maybe that is easier/more desireable for some reason....

OK found the thread.....yea so I guess he basically used one of the channels only for the SVC sub....seems to me like he didn't realize the VCs on the factory DVC subs are powered by 2 separate channels (actually I'm not sure what he thinks..), because he only thinks he's losing power due to a 4 ohm, and not 2 ohm impedance......(and actually....Pontiac has DVC 4 ohm subs....so that IS the proper impedance....so so the only reason I think it still sounds comparable even with one less channel per sail is due to better quality/efficiency)

dude I have no idea what you just said LOL

I just need to know what speakers will work....Fronts, rears, fillers (if needed) and tweeters (if needed....Also I have floor pillars that have room for an extra speaker and tweeter on each side If I can have them....

I just want to buy the speakers for now....then I will buy a HU later....then MAYBE a stealth sub & amp combo if I think I want more base.

Thanks for all your help!

unless anyone else has better suggestions as far as ease of installation, and making the most out of the power available -- I say Infinity 62.7i for the fronts, and eu700 by Elemental Designs in the sails, and ignore the furthest back hatch speakers -- you would use the Monsoon amp for everything, and not the HU. Cheaper alternative than the 62.7i's is just any quality 4 ohm speaker you can find, and you would just use the woofer wires in the doors to feed these. You may get a separate tweeter like they did in that write-up for the fronts, but you also may be happy without it and using a coaxial speaker for all the sound. Since you say you can mount them separately as components, maybe you're best off just getting a cheaper component set....though it is advisable to use the crossover that came with the set...you shouldn't have a problem.

Anything can work there...I see 62.7i's are $99 -- what is your price range?

Your best bet would probably be a cheaper component set and just use factory crossovers... I'm kinda confused why the poster in that thread you were talking about didn't use components, but a tweeter and a coaxial speaker... It seems like he is getting higher frequencies then from 2 places per side??? Not sure his reasoning for not going with components...unless he disconnected the tweeters on the coaxials causing that all to be cheaper than an actual component set... (note on the SPS-1005 tweeters he said he could not use the factory grilles for tweeter locations).

As far as components, these are the only cheap ones I would purchase ever...very good budget, and decent quality for what you pay (from what I've heard - but I would consider spending a little bit more if you go with components.

(non-sponsor link deleted - use PM)

You could but that one tweeter if you don't care if it fits, and a decent coaxial speaker and just snip off the tweeter wires on that then....would be cheaper than a component set - and it's the same as the guy in his post did.....except it seems like he kept the tweeters on the coaxials too...

Yea.....and what you see for $40 there could probably be had for $15-$30 off a web site (a lot of the time) to put things into perspective. If you want more bass - you need to somehow predict if you'll be happy with eu700's in the sails....if not - might wanna skip out on those and just go with the stealth setup, since I think you said you were getting that eventually regardless.
