I have a Sony deck 6 years old that plays still, without any type of maintenance... my Pioneer is about 1000x better, but the Sony was fairly cheap for me when I was in high school

I wouldn't buy a Sony deck again though lol

Yes sir you must be.

I expect that from the Alpine.

I still do have an older C-90 that plays like it was new, but it is from Sonys more reputable days..

It must have been an Alpine from BB, CC or Mexico.

Nah, most likely from Alpine themselves. It's typical.

Default head unit

You should definetily go with alpine!!! I have had both pioneer and alpine. When I relaced the pioneer p6600 with the alpine 9851 I could tell a world of differance. The alpine has much better controls for a system!!! My alpine is a 2005 model and they have come out with even better ones now!

I have yet to find a deck (other than Pioneer) that has the controls that my 880PRS has......dual (L/R) 16 band EQ's, auto time alignment, auto EQ, BBS, Burr-Brown DACs, DSP, high pass filters (50/63/80/100/ 125/160/200Hz, 0/-6/-12dB/Oct.), low pass filter (50/63/80/100/ 125/160/200Hz, -6/-12/-18dB/Oct), standard/network mode and defeatable internal amp.

The auto EQ and auto TA is kick butt and makes a WORLD of difference.

If there is another brand of deck that has these features, post it up, as I would like to see it.

5 band PEQ is quite flexible.

Theres also quite a bit of debates as to the 880s DAC being 24bit or even BB. Unfortunately Pioneer cannot even directly answer to it.

Cost aside it is leaps and bounds ahead of the 880, not to mention it is a true 4 way active HU.

Dont get me wrong here the 880 is a solid performer and one of my best selling units (defectives aside), so Im in no way bashing it, just not a competitor for the DRZ.
