Default Headunits

Just wanted to see what brand or model of headunit everyone prefers. Alpine seems to be the best for the money.

Recomendations would be good, I'm looking to get a new headunit, then upgrade the midrange speakers and get an amp to power them. I also have a 12'' rockford fosgate sub. I'm mainly interested in sound quality just trying to decide between alpine and pioneer.
I also want something that i can turn up real loud for when the ttops are off with distorion and around or under $200.
thanks in advance!

There is no "best" HU -- whatever you like personally...each will have advantages and disadvantages over one another, even across different brand models (cosmetic differences, functionality, tuner quality, CD playback, SQ, etc.). Look for brands like (in no specific order) Alpine, Eclipse, Pioneer Premier, Kenwood Excelon, Clarion is OK, some Panasonics, JVC...etc --- just avoid the pool of low end HUs.

You will want to amp more than the midrange (what speakers are you referring to there?) for loud clean power that you seem to desire.

Yeah i know theirs no "best Hu" just wanted to here from some experienced people what they thought were some of the better sounding head units.

I was just gonna buy a 4 channel amp for the 4 main speakers, not sure if it would power the tweeters too, and i have an amp for the sub.

Pioneer, no contest.
Ive had my 7500MP3 for almost 5 years now, and it still plays great.
And the motion streetbikes/dragons/blimps;dolphins score great points with the ladies.

I really like my Eclipst 8445. It's almost perfect. Might just be perfect for me as I can't think of anything I would want to change about it.

One ALPINE.

Been using ALPINE HU's since 92 not ones had it repaired, not ones. There's a reason they came factory and still do on Lambos, good stuff man.

P. S. Just don't buy em' from BestBuy or CircuitCity they carry low end alpine crap. **BUY FROM A REPUTABLE DEALER**.

LOL You won't buy from Best Buy or Circuit City but you will buy from ebay? You're crazy.

I never liked the look of Alpines, or their lasers. Alpines never did well with scratched discs, where as you can roll a CD through a mixture of dirt, rocks, nails, and broken bottles, pick it up, wipe it off, and my Pioneer will play it
