First, outstanding idea!....This is really a great thread!
I have a 2004 Vette, with the same head unit and the 12 disc CD changer in the rear.....
My idea is to tap into the CD "output" wire bundle directly under my CD changer in the back compartment?.....Do you think this would work?
It would save me the hassle of removing the Radio from the dash.
The wire bundle coming out of the CD changer is exposed and VERY EASY to access!
Thanks again!

[QUOTE=vettealot;12122014]Okay this is an 02 C5 Z06
Which set of white inputs do I use the green strip or the white strip? and #1 is close to the bottom?
and the red is the other part correct?
Another question, this is the HVAC module same car with the readout for the LCD that does not display anymore. see the burnt black in the lower rt corner, any way to replace this LCD with another good one?
Thanks

should be the middle connector, 14 wires i believe
as far as HVAC check out corvetteforum.com there are tons of articles on how to fix the dim display issues its easy

Right on!...thanks for the reply!
I'll poke around the find the wiring diagram for the changer harness....
2 feet vs. Radio removal, disassembly/soldering/reassembly
I trust your suggestion about the different wire length....but considering the labor required for removing the radio, I'll accept the 2 foot of extra wire!

Thanks!....I've got a C5, and will give it a look!
Man, this will make adding an input jack pretty simple!
In fact, there is quite a bit of slack in the harness under the changer, so tapping into it should be a breeze!
Thanks again for all the good ideas!

It's already mentioned here but you can also connect an ipod interface directly from the cd changer jack in the back of the HU (which in my estimation is very easy to remove from the dash). I just ran the wire (end that plugs into the ipod) into my glove compartment. It frees up a lot of space as now I no longer have a whack of cds in there anymore to fumble with. If this interests you let me know and I can point you in the right direction.

Absolutely I'm interested!....Thanks!....
I used to install systems in cars from 1983 - 92, but haven't touched it since....
I just thought the factory radio in my C5 was almost impossible to get out, so I never considered trying it myself....
Your method sounds like the one I'd prefer, so if you could provide the info on yanking/accessing the radio, I'd really apreciate it!....

Ok i have a question for the gurus, I just did this mod, but it only plays from the left rear speaker, when i turn the volume up on the steering wheel it not only gets louder but it starts playing on all speakers, then back to left rear, same when i lower the volume. Anyone?

what about when you are playing a cd or on radio
sounds like either a loose wire or a problem with ur radio, the fact that its the rear speaker then goes to all points to ur radio IMO

If those are the only wires coming from the tape unit then two of them would be the sound. Here is how I tested:
"I had a stereo connector and hooked into a 12v power supply, you may need to run it off the car's connector. I made a probe by cutting off the end from an old set of headphones, and hooking the left/right channels together, and the left/right grounds together, and then each to a paper clip, plugged it into a female/female adapter, and then into a set of speakers. You could also just cut off the end of some headphones and probe using the headphone ends, just be careful because you can get some really loud tones. Put the ground probe onto the metal case of the stereo, and then tap each pin looking for sound"

opened up my HU and my wiring is diffrent from the others on here..
1998 z28 with cassette and cd changer..
which ones are the right wires to cut.. or would it be easier to tap into the connector that goes directly into the HU itself..
