I don't think I've seen the insides of a chevy tape unit. I did mod a pontiac tape deck here:

In that case it was on the smaller connector, and not the larger connector like the CD player. You can try to verify with the details a few posts up, #236

At last on the chevy CD connectors the colors did change over the years, but the positions stayed the same... could be different from the Pontiac unit though. Perhaps someone else has done one ... you can also test them to verify.

k. after reading through more post i think imago through the cd changer out back.. is the wiring going to be the same? also for ground can i just find a screw somewhere in the area i decide to mount the jack or should i splice into the ground where the connector is?

If you have a CD changer then it's easier to tap into the harness using the same type of jack ... I don't know the wiring though, but there are other threads here that explain that.

i have the wiring.. so how would the jack connections be? say i cut the left channel on the connector..which would be considered the wire comming from the cd player module or the wire from the circuit board?
thanks

This thread has some more details, I don't recall if there is another one with more details:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/stereo-el...0-gm9-aux.html
I would say the end of the wire going to your changer would be the "cd module", and the other end going into the stereo would be the "circuit board"

Were you able to fix this? My first though would still be the antenna, not really up on frequencies, etc but maybe it's able to get AM signals even with a disconnected/poor antenna connection. It's very strange you'd lose just one band, and this mod doesn't really have anything to do with the radio part. You should be able to completely disconnect the CD module and the radio would still work.

Just did this and it worked great. Only problem is once I put the radio back in I realized the clock doesn't light up anymore and the seek button is dim. I'm guessing I killed/knocked out one of the lights. Anyone have any other ideas?
