You should try a wired FM modulator instead of the wireless type. You will get much better sound... in fact the sound will be as good as FM is capable of producing. The wired modulator gets plugged into your antenna cable providing as strong a signal as possible. Search Amazon or other online sources for "wired FM modulator"... there's a good one for $25 that includes a switch to allow selection of the auxiliary input or normal FM (the switch prevents interference if you have a local station on the same frequency as the modulator). Make sure you get a stereo one. You'll probably also need an antenna adapter since GM uses a much smaller version of the Motorola antenna plug than is standard... you can pick up one of those at any auto parts store or even Walmart.
Thanks! I end up doing this, probably the best solution to keep the original unit.

Has anybody found the CD POWER wire in other years as Taylor Hackel did in this post? Is Taylor still around?:

https://ls1tech.com/how-tos/a/camaro...adapter-417993

I have a '98 HU and inside my CD connector uses all red wires with a blue at the end (which I found to be ground), and although 1 and 3 are audio, if I clip the 7th wire as in the above how to, it does not ERR out, but seems to make it so the laser has trouble tracking and continuously makes a clicking noise. It actually did play initially but then started to just click and it sounded like the disc was still spinning. When I connected the wires, it once again played just fine...

Unless there is an exact process to it that I'm missing, I just want the Aux to play without it wearing out the CD player, and Taylor's how to seems to indicate that it works in Firebirds, even though he demonstrates on a Camaro...

I plan on clipping each wire individually until I figure it out, unless someone can help... Hopefully I can find a replacement connector after I tear this one up...

There are tons of posts on this subject but I could not find one sparing the CD having to continue to run and wear out... Also people using their changers in the back spinning away, which I find especially crazy because the changers are prone to jamming up the discs, and if it is running every time you use the AUX and considering the age of the changers, I would imagine you will soon come to a point where you are back at the radio because the changer will ERR out after it jams or dies all together. Mine jammed several times and after I had to take it apart a second time to clear a jam, I bumped something to where it will no longer discover a disc. And I don't feel it's worth fixing or replacing, because the mechanical nature of the changing of the discs is not going to be something that lasts very long... Even new I can't imagine these worked very good for very long, but I'm probably wrong about that...

Thanks!
SH

I have THIS in my car --

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...-GM45&_sacat=0

NOT perfect but worth trying.

I believe it takes the place of the CD changer -- I think that means it works without spinning your built in CD player.

Grab one if you want to try it -- these are EXTREMELY rare.

His price is fair but not great at $100 + $17 for shipping.

I'm still tinkering with this in my car -- I get ground loop noise sometimes.

If interested LMK, you also need an updated cable for this to work with newer iPods -- SEE BELOW.

This is the updated cable you may need -- it may not be included in the kit above.

https://www.crutchfield.com/shopsear...pec_cable.html

USA Spec CBP-85A iPod® Cable

Charge your iPhone™ 3G or newer iPod with the PA-10, PA-11, and PA-12 adapters

Item #: 581CBP85

I believe I got the 85 one from Crutchfield for like $25 shipped.

Default About ground loop issues...

This is a discontinued item and there are no more service bulletins available for it. You can try a ground loop isolator on the aux input to see if it helps..

Thank you

I HAD WRITTEN --

Hi, I have an old PA11-GM45 in my 2000 Pontiac Firebird. I actually only recently installed it. I know it’s discontinued but I figured it probably is similar to some of the other models that are still being made. I’m having an issue with intermittent electrical noise. I can’t explain the one noise, but the other noise is like a ticking noise. The thing is it’s intermittent. I seem to get it more on the aux jack connections than when I use the iPod connector. Today I drove around for about 20 minutes and it was absolutely almost crystal clear with no electrical noise, and then all of a sudden the noise started again. Is this some kind of a grounding issue, or do you have some suggestions? Thank you, I appreciate your input!

Actually, they're compatible with head units as described in the Monsoon FAQ... in 4th generation 98+ F-bodies that means all tape head units and CD head units from 2000 through 2002. It may or may not be compatible with 1999 models because the change was made late in that model year. It will NOT be compatible with a 1997 CD head unit.

The external CD changer must be disconnected because the device plugs into the CD changer port in place of the original cable.

Thank you WhiteBird00, I knew something was bothering me about the 97 part!

Can you believe there's 5 of the USA Spec adapters on eBay right now? Wow!

I really wanted to add bluetooth internally on my radio. I was afraid I was gonna jack it up. Ended up getting an iSimple PXDX (AuxBox) that connects to the CD changer input on my tape radio. Then I just got a JL MBT-RX Bluetooth adapter (super small and flat) and wired it to the power wire at the traction control switch that Isnt present in my car. Works like a champ and sounds fantastic!! Probably not the most Ideal setup but was fairly simple and cheap.

ETA: After doing some searching it seems the PXDX was discontinued.

99Silver6.0 --

That's very clever -- and that's the only two parts you needed?

I just purchased a PXDX on eBay for $7 !!! to examine more closely!

Why do you call the PXDX "AuxBox?"

I assume that just streams the iPod audio but no steering wheel control, right?

For now I'm going to keep tinkering with the USA Spec adapter -- still having a grounding loop issue with it...

I did have to get their cable (PXHGM2) to connect between the PXDX and connector on back of the head unit. I forgot about that piece, my bad. When I saw the iSimple adapter talked about it was always referred to as an aux box. Essentially an auxiliary input adapter. Music will have to be controlled from the phone and volume at the wheel or radio. I also think the PXDX will only work with cars that had the factory CD changer since it mimics the actual changer.

ETA: Digging back through some old links I remembered I did come across another module the does pretty much the same thing. The A2D-GM2 and it has the bluetooth module built into it.
