As long as you just tapped into the left and right audio wires, that shouldn't cause an eject or the player to not start ... you should be able to power up the stereo even if those two wires are cut, you just won't have any sound. Are you sure you tapped into the correct wires?

Are you getting bleed through from the CD when using the MP3 player? Sometimes people can get faint CD sound if the audio cable is plugged in but no MP3 player is plugged in, but it should go away when using the player.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info and taking the time to post all this up. Just performed this mod on my 99 TA and it went pretty smoothly.

I mounted the input jack inside the center console storage area just above the coin holders as someone else had done in this thread. Seems ideal there.

Only potential downside is that either the jack is not very good quality, or the plug I am using to plug into it is a little out of spec, but you have to twist/wiggle the plug just right to get the audio to come through properly. And it doesn't fit all that tight in the jack. Maybe I need to get a different cord to connect my zune to the jack, we'll see but it works for the most part as is.

Sure as heck beats the worthless Zune car pack FM modulator thing I was using, that was pretty much junk... Thanks again.

Default Radio input instead of CD

Excellent post, thank you.

Question: would it make more sence to splice into radio wires instead of CD? In that case, you would not need to have a CD playing in your player, and your radio would work when the nothing is plugged in... Any way to find out if two of the other wires are carying the sound from radio?

Tapping in the radio would be best, however it's built directly into the main circuit board so it would be harder to find and tap into. The CD player is easier to work with since it's a separate module only connected to the main board by a single ribbon cable, and you know two of the wires much be carrying the audio.

Ok, let me just thank you so much for the amazing write up. It could not have been more perfect. Took me and my dad about 3 hours start to finish(but we did everything over perfectly) I ended up mounting it into the ashtray. This is something i have been wanting to do forever and finaly got off my lazy *** and did it (mainly cuz i got my wisdom teeth out friday).

once again, THANK YOU!!!

Has anyone done this on a vett?

My hu is slightly different. Here's a picture

I circled what connectors I think everyone's been using. But then previous members said this isn't the connector and they used pins 4 + 5.

For the previous modders, what did you guys use?

This is a 01 z06.

I believe pentavolvo has done this mod on corvette HUs. The audio is usually always on the 1st and 3rd pins, no matter the colors. I don't recall pins 4 and 5, if you have a specific post let me know. If you want to test the easiest way is to get a set of old headphones and cut off the connector. Take one of the grounds (usually the bare wire) and one of the other wires and put them on paper clips, then probe the pins when a disc is playing. If you hear the sound, you've found the right wires.

Works exatly like the CD player, just have your radio on and you are golden.

FYI, it was the 4th and 5th wires instead of the 1st and 3rd like in the original post.
