Question System for my SS opinions please...

ok well after ive blown up 3 out of the 8 speakers in my car and broken my monsoon headunit cause i was pissed and decided to hit it. i want a system in my car. the headunit im getting is the Alpine CDA9883 (this time i wont hit it).

-as far as subs i want (2) kicker 10's comp vr's probably but if yall think i should go with something else let me know.
should i go 2 ohm or 4?

-now for highs and mids what speakers do you recommend & what sizes do i need?

-i want to replace all the oem ones, i also want good quality stuff no cheap crap. im not stereo smart so will i need capacitors or what?

-how many amps would u run? 2 one for subs and one for highs and mids?

-what sizes?

***let me know what yall think cause like i said im not really into the whole stereo side of the car.

thanks, Hunter

You've got the right idea...def go with one amp for the sub and one for the highs/mids...you want amps so that you can adjust the high/low pass filters...this way the sub only plays lows and the highs/ mids aren't getting signals that are toooo low....as far as the subs go, I might not be sure but i think that the lower the ohms, the less power it takes to push the sub..but im not sure on that..but im thinkin the lower the better, just make sure it matches up with ur amp, don't run a 2 ohm speaker on a 4 ohm amp...make sure its setup right, the subs come with directins....read um!! a buddy of mine has only one 10 in a stealth box that fits in the cubby hole in the trunk on the driver side and it THUMPS!..you'll have tight bass that won't rattle ur trunk and it'll make the rock music sound sick ...I must say im jelous on the head unit cuz thats the exact one i want for my Z, but that'll have to wait....as for the speakers..go Type-R component in the front and type-R's in the rear panels and behind the seats....im thinkin you won;t need a capacitor cuz i ran a type-S 12 in my Z with a 700 watt amp and had no problems at all.....but thats up to you. hope this helps

Starting with the hu, in my opinion alpine is a good choice. It is kinda pricey but alpine has some good stuff from experience except for the older type x subs. But anyway, on to the subs, what kind of bass do you want? Do you want tight crisp bass or do you want earth shaking bass? 10" subs give you the crisp end of bass and 15" gives you the earth shaking bass and the 12" falls a little bit in between. For the name brand you cant really ask what the best is everyone is going to have their own opinion. I have a 12" orion h2 2ohm and can be wired to 1ohm and a 1000 watt amp, and it shakes the crap out of me. Highs and mids get the same size speaker that comes factory in the car the audio place you go to can tell you the right size. For the cap I have heard you want one farad per 1000 watts, or you could get a high output altenator and upgrade your charging system. If you run two amps you will need a power distribution block, it just splits the power wire from you car battery into to so you can run it to two seperate amps. The size of the amp depends on the size of you speakers. You dont want to under power you speakers because it can damage you speakers. I cant think of anything else to write if you have any more questions just ask. I also have some audio stuff for sale.

I have been running alpine type-r and when I bashed the subs it wasnt the type x it was the old type r. I have heard good things about the comps, what is the RMS wattage of the speakers you are talking about?

Sounds good, i just got a hifonics amp. You might want to consider getting the 9885 its got 4volt preamp outputs, and supposley a nice display.
Heres another nice HU from pioneer, it also has a usb drive so you could hook up a hard drive to it.

You need to set a budget before you get into car audio.

You said you don't want cheap crap, but that can cost you $500-$600 for a set of components easily. An amp can cost another $500 to power your highs, too.

Budget is most important, then the recommendations can begin.

No offense, but to be honest, that sounds like a big waste of time.

I guess you're stuck with the "alpine is the BEST!!!!!" recommendations until you can set a budget for yourself.

As far as amps are concerned I like Kicker myself. A 600.1 would get the job done for your subs (I dont especially like the comps but that is up to you). For mids and highs Kicker's 350.4 or 650.4 will do depending on what components you get. I would suggest component sets from either kicker or memphis. Kicker RS65.2 components are reasonably priced and sound great. Check e-bay for some really good prices on some quality equipment. Also if you are in the market for a kx650.4 or kx350.4 or kx600.1 pm me, I have some for sale.

I agree..not a very big fan of the kicker comps...or comp VR's...buddy of mine had 2 of them and he blew them without a lot a trouble.....he only ran one 800 watt amp....

I recommend getting a stealth subthump box. They cost around $90-$100 if I'm not mistaken.
I purchased one years ago for my Alpine 10" DVC Type-S. I am very happy with it.
They make other goodies too. Check them out.
