Default Amp Problems

Hey guys, question about my amp: When I have my system turned on there is a high pitched whining sounds that seems to mimic whatever RPM's im doing in my car. Any advice as to what's causing this? Also, I'm looking for a better place to ground my car, its a 98 z28 convertible. Thanks for your help!

Check your ground first.
2nd lower the gains on the amp till the whining/pitch goes down/away.
3rd get better RCA's.

Thanks for the help guys. The ground is questionable. There's a solid connection, but I had a friend install it and he put the ground on a large peice of thin metal. I don't know if that affects how sound the ground is. Secondly I'm buying a new amp as this one's seen better days and I just bought some good rca's for it. I'm mostly just worried about the ground not being attached to a thick peice of metal.. If it does have to be on a better spot, does anyone know a good one for a 'vert?

make sure you run your RCA's away from the power wire.

no we didnt remove any paint where it was grounded.. Theres just a spot where a screw is screwed through the metal and attached to the grounding cable.

Use sand paper or emery cloth to remove enough paint so that BARE metal shows. Should be nice and shiny.

The ground I used for my amps is one of the screws/bolts that holds down the 'C A M A R O' bezel in the rear. I sanded the area down good, sandwiched the round lug terminal between two washers.

No alternator whine or ignition noise here at all (of course, power wires and rca's are run on separate sides of the car too).

I'm almost positive my ground wire is longer than 18 inches.. I didnt know they had to be 18 in. or less.. I'll see what I can do to find a better grounding spot..
