I'd probably use both screws and polyurethane glue

i bought 6.5" spacers from best buy and i used my dremel to trim out the inside to amke them fit the speakers. I then used foam weather seal both on the speaker and on the back of the spacer. i then cut a 1.5" hole in that metal piece behind where the speaker goes to allow the subwoofer to vent back there.

people have posted pics of all of this in a thread in the section. just do some searching.

The hole is for venting. You'll see a matching port on the back of the speaker that should line up with the hole. However, if you use a thick enough spacer so that there is air space behind the port then the hole isn't strictly necessary. In fact, eD says that no damage will be caused even if the port hole is blocked but I would drill a hole anyway just to be safe. Using a 1/2" drill will work fine but a 1" hole saw is even better.

If you use a .5" spacer, forget about the holesaw (unless you have easy access) -- there will be no problems.

As for the glue -- you could use rope caulk instead if you have any of that -- otherwise, use anything that will remain flexible permanently. Or if you wish, screw the wood into dynamat (or similar) -- the glue/whatever you use isn't necessarily to hold the speaker or anything - but to help seal/dampen vibrations (the speaker sits nice on a spacer...but the metal surface is not perfectly flat..)

I just installed mine today. first you will definately need some type of caulk. I used .5" partical board as a spacer and no caulk at first. I was not happy with the sound of the speakers at all. I took it all out and reinstalled with caulk, big difference! I think you will be happy with your new speakers. I still need to sand down the front of the spacer since the speakers are hitting the sail pannel speaker grill when turned up . Let us know how it turned out.

Rope caulk, or any silicone caulk that remains permanently flexible should be used -- don't go at it with liquid nails or anything...
