I've never heard of a 4th gen that didn't have a powered rear hatch.

Yes, I bring nothing to the table with this.. I'm just alittle suprised.

You probably still have to add the hatch release relay. It mounts under the left side of the dash to the bracket that holds the main instrument panel wiring harness. You should find an unused 4-pin connector there that has orange, brown, tan with white, and black with white wires in it.

where would i be able to find a relay for this at? i think it might already have one because when i push the button in i hear a clicking sound and i looked under the dash after i took off the lower panel and the clicking is coming from a lil polished looking thing and it has a connecter on it. thank you

It looks like it could be a standard Bosch-style automotive relay but I would bet that GM made it something proprietary so you have to buy their part (part number 12177233) for $30.

However, you could use a standard relay if you cut the connector off the harness and put your own connectors on the wires. Connect the brown wire to terminal 86, the tan with white wire to terminal 85, the orange wire to terminal 30, and the black with white wire to terminal 87.

Well, I'm not sure the factory connector will work because GM probably did something like change the wire positions to try to make you buy their relay. But the wiring is basically the same as a standard relay so you could always cut off the factory connector and just wire up a standard relay.

Yes, the 87a terminal is "normally closed" (connected to 30 when the relay is at rest) while the 87 terminal is "normally open" (connected to 30 only when the relay has been energized).

No, the terminal numbers I listed in my earlier post are correct for the 5-pin 30-amp standard relay. Terminal 87a will be unused in this configuration.

Same here with my '99. No T-Tops either? I've added door locks to the car and I've been wanting to do th power trunk myself. If it was a Z28, this is a rare configuration. Actually there are less made like this then some of the rare-color SS and WS6's out there. It's the striper model sort of like the LX Mustangs in the 80's and 90's.

can someone give deatails on this?

i had to rewire my camaro, everything works exept i didnt get any power to my constant hot wire behind my radio and i ran another one so now everything but my power hatch works...

so can someone please tell me the EXACT way to wire this up? onlything i changed was i had to cut wires and splice them back into the same color and i think i mixed two up on this relay under my dash by kick panel,

but the guy i got my wiring harness off of didnt tell me if he had a power hatch, but i didnt have any extra wires hanging out..

thanks

sorry to bring back a dead thread

Here is the wiring schematic for the hatch release:

The relay is controlled by the BCM through the brown wire. Both the inside switch and the remote key fob cause the BCM to send a 12V pulse through the brown wire to the relay to energize the coil and trip the relay. Constant (battery) power from the orange wire is then sent through the black with white wire to the hatch release. It's not shown on the diagram but the fourth wire on the relay is tan with white and provides a ground path for the relay coil.
