Default *FINISHED* custom 12" box for trunk well - FINALLY...

finished the box -- just need to mount the amp on the side of the box or on an amp rack..haven't decided yet -- temporarily using a rack until I think if I really want some holes in the box...

here is the thread with progress build pics:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/wiring-stereo-electronics/757575-custom-12-partial-well-box-enclosure-progress-pics-inside.html

decided to make a new thread since the other one has many pictures that are useless to see unless someone else needs ideas for building

amp rack is not in in these pics because it is a temp. setup

TC-2000 driver mounted

crap -- ignore the small piece of elect. tape.....that's so I know where 12 o'clock is when mounting the sub, since the cutout is so tight in only fits one of a couple ways but I didn't want to enlarge the hole if it fits perfectly \even one way.

ignore the carpet under the box -- it's gone now

view from in the car

---

thanks for viewing!

ok...this is how I TEMPORARILY threw the amp in last night just so I could have it secured and usable for the drive to/from work (actually, the temp setup gives me ideas because the amp rack easily pulls back like a hinge giving trunk access vs. an amp rack that sits more flat). Tonight I will either mounting the amp on the side of the box OR making an amp rack to sit next to the box -- please provide any feedback on amp mounting ideas! Thanks!

read comment above pic...this is temp.

how does it sound being offset like that and also, how is it mounted...pressure fit, bolted to the floor, how..?

after seeing your box i am thinking of doing that if i decide i don't want to loose all the space in the lower well.

immediately behind the sub is about 65% opening to the lower box portion, and the rest is not (but does have adequate space -- the vented pole is aligned with the box extension underneath). Because the box is sealed, the offset does not have any negative effect on performance. I believe that (more or less) the sub in sealed boxes just sees a certain net volume/pressure behind it and shape is irrelevant.

As far as actually listening to it -- I have no complaints at all.

The box is NOT going anywhere the way it sits on it's own weight under and driving circumstances.

On top of that though, there is one "L" bracket and wingnuts holding two straps of galvanized steel to the car with wingnuts - this can be seen if you pull out the plastic panel on the left. This stuff is just in case someone wants to try stealing it....of course they can always try to take the sub only -- it is held in by hex bolts which might help tho.. Either way, the well cover fits over everything and can be used to hide it in parking lots, etc.

EDIT: another option for you is this (if you haven't seen it): https://ls1tech.com/forums/wiring-stereo-electronics/733066-final-install-pics-custom-single-12-partial-well-box-enclosure.html

You retain all of your lower well space, and the amp rack on the right is easily lifted giving you acces to the trunk. That just did not give me enough volume for the driver I exchanged for. That box and amp rack are f/s actually (best offer + shipping) - just need to make a f/s thread.

My guess is you don't want to put any extra holes in your sub box and risk having it leak. So my vote is to put it on a seperate rack. The one your threw together isn't too bad looking. I'm using a subthump rack and I really like the idea of using the back wall since that blocks the least amount of space in the well.

Yea I would prefer it be on the back wall - but I guess I've taken up so much space already that I might as well hide any items I do have in the trunk with a rack. I would make sure the screws were .5" so they wouldn't penetrate the box, but ya never know if the MDF will split even with pre-drilled holes.... so I'll make an amp rack for next to the box and have it rest on the trunk shelf on the right, and a small part of it can extend behind my box and rest on that support on the back of the box.

Just wanted to make sure people didn't think mounting on the box was the best -- plus polls always promote more feedback which gives me more ideas.

amp rack done as well:

I actually went with the idea of my temp rack (the temp rack was from the other box - glad I threw it in there and had it give me ideas)

it extends behind the sub box over that support beam seen in previous pics and the other sid rests on the trunk well side wall -- the whole thing can be lifted as it were on a hinge for storage space underneath (which I fit a good amount of stuff).

hopefully you never see another thread like this from me again

I purchased the TC-9 in my first box linked before any mention of price increases. Then in the process of that / getting rid of it for a TC-2000 the priceing situation came about. Prices should have been raised a couple times by now (this is the 3rd time they have pushed the deadline back).........but they aren't changing and they shut down their forums so IDK how anybody is going to figure anything out. And at first they were supposed to go up 30-50%.........not 50-100% (I doubt everything will go up at least 50%).
