my damn cobra BS wont say nothing when the local cops are driving by, i know the SOB got some kinda radar or laser going in their cars. mine will go off at banks though, and sometimes in peoples front yards, and sometimes just for fun, i think it does it just to fu** with me. it only hits on the small town cops,my city is a population of like 750, its a city outside the city, so i guess they are the only ones stupid enough to get caught running their radar.

I REFUSE to drive with out my 8500 X50, with the blue display. It's paid for itself probably a couple hundred times. I've had it for i guess over 3 years now. The only speeding ticket i got was with Laser. Now i know where they Laser traps are, and just slow down...thanks god i did this morning or i would have gotten another one. I think it's time for a Laser Shifter. The damn Highway Partol ticket was almost 400 for 82 in a 55

I have the Whistler Pro. I feel it does it's job. It got good reviews from Radar Roy for the price range it was in.
No radar detector is perfect, and you still run a risk of getting a ticket if you speed no matter what.

when it comes to radar detectors, after a certain range, more distance doesn't really help you any. for people who say that their radar detector has been tested to work at 1.5 miles away, you have to consider that was done on a long, straight, flat road with no hills or other vehicles/obstacles in the way to interfere with the radar signal. in normal, everyday use, that means jack ****, and offers absolutely no benefit over one that has a range of "only" 1 mile. usually the only time that amount of range is of benefit is when you are on an interstate highway with little other traffic, for example. in city driving, range is pointless (in most cases). even if your detector starts going off at the 1-mile mark, you'll still have PLENTY of time to slow down before they can get an accurate reading on you, unless you're REALLY hauling ***.
if you're spending over $250 on a radar detector, chances are pretty good that you'll get adequate range for you to slow down in time, unless you're going *****-out at 120+ or something. at this point, what makes a certain radar detector better than another one (to you) is features.
some people want certain features, and others could care less about those same features and have other priorities. this is why there is no "best" radar detector....there's only the best one for you, based on your own particular set of priorities.
personally, i love my V1.....it's saved me more tickets than i can count, and i really like being able to see where the signal is coming from. you may say that it doesn't really matter, and that you should slow down anyway if your radar detector is going off....but you'd be wrong. if you drive a certain route fairly frequently, those arrows help you to narrow down the area where the signal is coming from quickly so you can find out if it's a cop sitting on the side of the road, hidden somewhere, or if it's simply an automatic door opener at a grocery store. it can also help you find places where cops like to hide. if the signal is coming from the front, once you get alongside the radar signal, you'll see the side arrows light up, then the rear arrow, once you've passed them. this makes it very easy to find where they're hiding, so you can make note of that in the future. once you're fairly certain where the signal is coming from after seeing it in the same place over time, you can disregard that particular warning (unless your bogey counter is higher than normal, in which case, you should slow down).
i've only had 1 ticket since i got my V1, and that was only because the cop didn't have the radar on until it was too late to do anything about it (it was dark, so i couldn't see him ahead of time). no detector out there can detect a radar unit until it's turned on, so no detector out there would have helped me in that situation.

I bought an 8500 x50 blue one for my SS, and a V1 for my T/A. After a few months I tossed out the 8500 x50 and bought ANOTHER V1 for my SS.
Here is my 8500 x50's new home:
I don't care if one beats the other out by a few feet here or there, the arrows on the V1 TELLING me where they're coming from and HOW MANY signals there is, thats where its at right there.

to my understanding by the time your radar detector is recieving a signal the cop has already received your speed therefore making it useless...correct me if i'm wrong but that makes sense to me. i look at it like the way if you can see the driver of an 18 wheeler in his side mirrors than he can see you kinda deal.

to my understanding by the time your radar detector is recieving a signal the cop has already received your speed therefore making it useless...correct me if i'm wrong but that makes sense to me. i look at it like the way if you can see the driver of an 18 wheeler in his side mirrors than he can see you kinda deal.
think of this as the radar gun -- and this as the beam leaving the gun <. then you have # as the car. so you have --< # so the energy being expelled by the radar gun in going to continue to travel up and down (in the example above) until it dissipates in the atmosphere. Basically when all radar detectors go off, the have levels that will be displayed. If you detector says 'Ka Alert' and its only showing one bar _, its just picking up the residual energy from a radar gun being targeted at someone else. If the level goes higher (most goto 5 or so), youre getting closer to the source. So, if you radar detector goes off at level 5, then you're screwed.
Laser on the other hand, is a very narrow beam, and once your detector tells you is detected laser...its too late.

That said, laser jammers are around for a reason, and if you're concerned about it....
Though if you're going 120 in a 55, even if you jam his radar/laser gun, chances are he's just going to make up some speed and claim he got a reading.
