Default removing the monsoon

Hello guys, today i went to tackle the task of removing the complete monsoon system. Speakers, amp, headunit, and entire wiring harness. Man, what a pain in the ***!!! Lots of snaking wires out and whatnot. Im going to just run new wires straight from the aftermarket deck, to each speaker, and just run standard 3 way 6 1/2 inch speakers in the doors, and in the rear sail pannels.

So, how many have completelly removed all of it??? I bet theres a good 10 lbs worth of amp and wiring in there, hey, its weight reduction!!!

Okay, I'll bite...why would you go to all that trouble? The head unit, speakers and amp I can understand but remove all the wiring to save a mere ten pounds?

youd be better off running the speakers off the monsoon amp or going for an aftermarket amp. i wouldnt run them off just the headunit.

I was joking on the weight reduction. have you tried to remove all the wiring?? its a friggin jumbled up mess. I dont like just having wiring lay around in the car, that im not planning on using. If i dont have a use for it, its coming out. Simple as that.

I just replaced my speakers and HU and left the amp in there. Was going to bypass it but just didn't feel like going through all the trouble (plus losing the subs). Seems to work fine that way.

yeah, i did that at first, but wasnt satisfied with the sound output and the speakers I had chosen. So, im going to get a package from kee audio here, that will most likelly include a 5 channel amp, 100 watts rms per channel at 4 ohms, and 400 watts rms at 2 ohms for the sub. Will just put 2 sets of 2 way 6.5 inch speakers in there, one pair in the door, and one pair in the sail panels. Then a custom enclosure with a single 10. Should sound pretty good I would think.

With my 97 I simply installed a 4 channel amp in the back and connected the amp output wires to the correct wires in the monsoon harness in the back. This way I didn't have to run wires all over the car. Probably had some power loss but since I run a sub my mids arent run too hard anyway.

I just did a full splice. I spliced all of the amp wires straight through to the speakers. Pulled all of the power wires for the amp and CD changer. That was a pain, that **** is like a rats nest. But it all worked out well.

yup, it sure is! I got all the wires out last weekend, except for the drivers side spoeaker wires, but they will be coming out here if I get out to the car today. Got all the amp harness wires out, and rear driver and passenger speaker wires out, passenger side door speaker wires out. Left the shock sensor, and the power antenna wires ran, along with the antenna of course. Pulled the wires from the radio area. I bought a MB Qaurt 5 channel amp, and a drivers side rear enclosure. Im planning on going MB Qaurt 6.5's and MB Qaurt 10 inch sub. Will run wires from the amp, to the doors, and rear sails. Shoudl work out pretty damned good im hoping.
