Default Headlight module?

Will a headlight module from a corvette work in a T/A? The physically look the same, just didn't know if they operate the same.

What do you mean by "headlight module"? The headlight door control module? The DRL module? Something else?

Yes, the module that controls the headlight motors. There is plent of corvette modules on e-bay, but none for the T/A.

No, they are not interchangeable. The connectors look the same and the output is the same but the controlling signal is different. Corvette modules have a "headlight on" and a "headlight off" input that control the headlight doors. When there is power to the "on" input the module opens the headlight doors. When there is power to the "off" input the module closes the headlight doors.

Firebirds have a "headlights on" and a "parking lights on" input. When there is power to the headlights the module opens the headlight doors. When the power is removed from the parking light circuit the module closes the headlights.

I'm curious why you would be looking for a replacement. That module has shown very few failures. In fact, I can't remember ever hearing of one needing replacement. That's probably why you don't see them on eBay.

I have had an ongoing problem with my headlights. The motor gears were stripped on the left side. Fixed that and everything was good for a while. One day I went to turn them on and they did not come up. I checked things with a V meter and only had a signal going to one headlight motor. So I routed this in parralel with the other motor and they worked like this for a while. One day again nothing. So then I had power to the other motor wires, I revesed so both were pulling from this side. That worked for a litttle while. I have since replaced the weather pack connector with new ones (corrosion) and also replaced my parking lamp plugs. Now I don't have any power coming from the module to the motors. Power in but nothing out. I can hear it click, but nothing out.

Check the following connections:
- Both orange wires should have power at all times. If not then check and replace the left and right headlight door mini-fuses in junction box #1 on the left fenderwell
- Yellow wire should have power whenever the headlights are on.
- Brown wire should have power whenever the parking lights are on.
If the yellow or brown wires don't have power when they should then you'll have to do some tracing. Both wires go through the large grommet in the firewall to the headlight switch.

Will do. I know both orange wires have constant power. I'll check for voltage on the others.

OK. The brown has power when the P lights are on and retains power until they are off. The yellow has power when the headlights come on and looses power as soon as the headlights go off. Now, out of the module I am showing constant voltage to all leads. But what is odd is that on first try I was showing voltage only when lights should go down. In both cases none of the outputs would change to ground. I have also verified that the Black wire is ground.

Well, unusual as it may be, it sure sounds like the module is the problem. The GM part number is 16525685 and it retails for $230 at the dealer. Your best bet might be to find one at a junk yard.

I found someone on here that has one. $40. That is what the $ range on them are on e-bay also. I'll post up if this fixes it. Thanks for all the help with the wiring and controlls.

So, I got a used module from a member on here. I put in in today and voilą! Everything works as it should. I am still not sure what caused it to fail, but it prob had something to do with the corrosion in the weather packs.

Good news! You might want to put some dielectric grease on the connectors to avoid future corrosion problems. They have little packets of it at the checkout counter at AutoZone (I think they're about 75 cents).

BTW, it's refreshing to see someone using "voilą" properly.
