Default Removing OEM stereo

I am going to be installing an Alpine W205 double din head unit in my Camaro. I know I will have to do some cutting/grinding and such and want to pull out the OEM head unit.

I've found this in the stickies above:

Do I have to do anything before removing the stereo for security purposes? How about when I reconnect the factory stereo? Are codes required to turn the stereo back on?

I am only going to pull it off this weekend to takes measurments, Im not actually going to do any modding just yet.

Pretty much just pull it out and unplug the harness, no security features lol.

ok, so when I put the factory radio back in, it should work? I thought I read somewhere that a code has to be entered or something.

Why would you want to put that pos back in? I am pretty sure it would work, but dont quote me on that.

in the mean time, until i actually put the W205 in. I still haven't received the antenna adapter, video bypass module, and the rest of the crap I need to install the W205.

I pulled my stereo out to put in a 7" touchscreen. It's pretty much double din size. I didn't have any problems taking the stereo out and putting it back in. I didn't have any codes and it didn't lock up or anything like that.

You can see how I did it here maybe it'll help you out.

There is a feature on the factory head unit called Theft Lock. It allows the owner to set a PIN number that must be entered when the unit powers up after having the power removed (battery disconnected or HU removed from dash). This was supposed to make the HU useless to thieves.

The Theft Lock system was not activated from the factory and most users never bothered to set up their PIN code to activate it. You can tell if it's active by whether the red LED on the face of the radio blinks when the car is off. If not then you don't have to worry about the Theft Lock. If Theft Lock is set but you don't know the PIN then all is not lost - the procedure for recovering a lost PIN is in the FAQ thread at the top of the forum.
