KEE AUDIO - Replacing speakers I'm wondering if I can replace all my speakers in my TA, I have the monsoon system.
I'm not changing the head unit, because all of the aftermarket head units do not match the interior. Looks ghetto as hell.
So I just want to replace the crappy monsoon speakers.
So can I replace all my speakers?
If so what are my options? Which speakers on your site and I replace the stock ones with.

go to ebay, you can buy most aftermarket speakers for about half of what the retail is, of course the shipping can be a bit high though
if you are wondering what speakers would be direct replacements for the monsoon speakers, read the FAQs, it should tell you what ohm speakers you need for each place
but if you replace the crappy monsoon amp with a decent one, it will open up your options quite a bit more, and wire all the speakers to it rather than having the monsoon headunit run any of them

IMO replace the factory speakers and amp at the same time. You can use a 6.5 2 way seperates in the doors, 6.5 2 way set in the sail panels and 4 inch 2 way or seperates in the hatch. Get a good LOC if you keep the factory deck. I reccommend the ones from Autosound 2000 or a JL Clean Sweep if you don't mind spending the money. I hooked up my LOC at the amp wiring in the hatch and have no alt whine what so ever. If you lose your spare tire, you can fit a fairly big amp in there is you want the totaly stealth look.
I have several options that work not only with the stock amp just fine but use the stock wiring and everything. Believe it or not the stock amp is not all that bad. It's the stock CD player and speakers that are the culprit when it comes to the Monsoon. The Monsoon/Delco unit is a large part of the poor sound quality as it is a distortion box. An amp can only amplify the signal it's given. Couple that with poor materials the speakers are made of and you have the makings of poor sound quality.
I put together speaker packages all the time that work with the stock Monsoon system and make marked improvement in sound. My personal favorite for a nice upgrade to the speakers in a Firebird is use of the either the CDT CL-61 or CL-E61 component set in the doors and a pair of Bazooka DVC subs in the sails. These make a vast improvement over stock in sound quality and power handling. Both door and sails would be replaced and improved for around $300.00.
I read what you mentioned about aftermarket radios. What is it exactly that you think makes the install look ghetto? Is it the radio itself not matching stock illumination or just the use of the adapter kit to make it fit in the stock opening possibly? Just asking as I may be able to help find you something that would work for you. The only reason I mention it is because it really makes another improvment in sound with that upgrade. The Monsoon amp when given a clean signal to work with sounds like a completely different system with the use of a quality unit. I just wanted to put that out there to see if I can help with that as well. There are some tasteful installs for HU upgrades that can be done.

MB Quart is not the same as they used to be ever since they were bought by Maxxsonic. MB Quart used to have some really nice stuff. They are still good but not like they used to be. Maxxsonic is the company that owns MB Quart, Hifonics, Autotek, and Crunch. They are also in the process of acquiring Audiobahn. I have access to all of those.
Focal is another story. They are very nice and are in the league as the CDT's.

Depending on model I agree. Both are high quality but both have a different but great sound. Basically when I first discovered CDT I was looking at Focals as well. I just wanted audiophile grade speakers and basically wanted to look into companies I hadn't heard alot about like Morel, CDT, Focal, Rainbow, and the other companies that basically only people in the business and guys not quality sound systems were familiar with. I had tried Infinity, JL Audio, Alpine, and the other companies that have larger marketing budgets already and wasn't that impressed.
I'm about to install CDT ES-62i comps in my doors as I have a great deal on them. After my Focal disaster of waiting 6 mos. and going through hell to get a CV-690 exchanged I would rather eat a **** sandwich than have anything Focal in my autos. None of it is made here or easy to get! Always great luck with CDT and you can opt for a lifetime warranty if you want. Who can beat that? I love my CDT stuff! I have had a little bit of everything over the years and like their components best. Can't speak for their subs but don't think they make what most are look for (subs aren't their thing). I also would lean towards Boston Acoustics over Focals.
The CDT EF-100 subs are geared for sound quality and are basically comparable to a W3 but have a much tighter sound. They are very good for this application. I have 2 HD SQ12" subs waiting to go in my car. They were made in small qualities and are VERY beefy. They have now been replaced by the rediculously expensive ES series. They have some very good subs but aren't really known for them.

It's a few things I think make it look a little ghetto. It's the illumination, high tech future look, the adapter kit, and the **** and everything else that don't match with the car. But I have seen a few custom bezels that make some aftermarket HUs look somewhat respectable.
