I just installed my alpine 9887 with pac jack and really like it. It can change illumination and has an EQ where as the 9886 is limited to treble and bass controls. I would personally get either the pac jack or pac ps depending on what stereo you get instead of the pac swi X.

I totally agree. I plan on getting the Pac Jack, PS, or ECL2 (depending on the brand of course). I have an SWI-X from my last system, but I don't want to mess around with the LED again. The biggest problem I have with the Alpine's is that you have to buy an adapter for like 150 bucks or more to use the Bluetooth! I'm trying to minimize cost while getting the features I want.

$150 is cheap for the Alpine BT unit; should be closer to $200. It's ridiculous. Pay that a quarter again and you have the cost of my whole deck with BT included.

That's one thing I like about the Pioneers. Bluetooth is built-in and all you need is a cheap cable to use the ipod integration.

I would avoid the pioneer 9800BT, I had the 7800MP, same thing without bluetooth, and the unit malfunctioned twice within a year.
I know its not one of the ones you were looking at just some advice.

As far as the 7000VT/700BT, I would check it out in person, the control wheel feels loose and sloppy.

You should check out the pioneer premier 800PRS, its pioneer's SQ headunit and has ***** like the 7900.

One other thing, I did not like about the current pioneers is that the volume **** is used for up/down/left/right. This makes navigating any menus while driving practically impossible.

That I'm used to, though. I had a deh-p8mp unit that I just sold a couple months ago actually. Kinda wish I hadn't, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. One of our lucky members on ls1tech now owns it.

Just got my Alpine 9886, I got the 9886 over the 9887 because it came with USB support. My friend at work has the 9886 and it is a nice deck.

I noticed that when I ordered the 9887, I would have to get an external module for usb support. Yet it seems the 9887 is the more SQ model, with built in time alignment, Parametric and Graphic EQ, Brown Burr DACs, active crossover, etc...
Also I liked the button lay out better and less going on on the screen. I do not need an icon to figure what what source is active. But the Biolite is nicer on the 9886.

Could be...

I was simply speaking from my personal experience. I guess I'll just hope I'm one of the lucky ones! I do have one of the older Alpine CDA something or other units in a 9c1 without a problem for 8 years. I'm sure it would be hard to regret buying an Alpine.
