Default So I screwed up my antenna..

Yep, I was cutting it yesterday..

I whipped out the pipe cutter to cut the antenna to 10" , that way it didn't look like I was trying to receive information from outer space while driving around with the radio on. So I cut off the remaining piece of antenna, no big deal. Inside I find a chain like object, which I assume was used to push the antenna up, and to pull it down.

So I grab a pair of cutters, and cut this chain like thing equal to my new 10" antenna. Get inside, shut the radio off, goes down fine. Turn it back on, the chain runs out an extra 2" than the antenna's length. So I cut it a little more, and I pull up on it just a tad to make sure there isn't any more extra length. Get back in, shut the radio off, turn it back on.. The chain stays out of the antenna. It DISCONNECTED from the antenna motor, and the chain came ALL the way out. now my antenna doesn't go up or down.

I put the antenna back in, that way it looks stock, but it just doesn't go up. You'd think it would be secured to the motor a little better.. man did that 10" antenna look badass ..

I have never heard of anyone attempting to shorten a power antenna.

Dude, that may be the most pointless mod ever!
But what can you do when you have all this peer pressure for shortie antennas right? hahha

I just cut the power to the motor, it never goes up. I still get good reception with it always being down. I listen to iPod/Cds all the time anyway

Or just replace it with a shortie. I replaced my power antenna with a fixed shortie.

lmao that "chain" thing is what brings the antenna up and down. of course it's not going to work if you cut it. sorry to say this, i like you and your car but this has to be one of the dumbest things i've ever heard of we all make mistakes though

Lol I know the chain thing makes it go up and down. Figure, cutting the antenna, therefore the chain should be trimmed to the new antenna size, so it can still move it up and down without feeding extra length. Instead, the motor pushed the WHOLE thing out and it disconnected LOL. I have no shame in my mistake, I found it kinda funny

It's not going to effect a thing. If anything it's better, now that dumb antenna won't be up. It was 30". And for those of you that haven't heard of it..

I'm not the only one Mine just failed. LOL.. Plus I'd rather have a short power antenna than some ugly thing that sticks up 24/7.

Shave it completely, replace with stock, or replace with a Metra power antenna.

It looks 100% stock. It just looks like an antenna with the radio off. There's not a big open hole there or anything.. Works fine too lol.

Yea it works fine whether or not its extended. My 'chain' in my power antenna broke like 5years ago and I only now recently replaced it with a shorty antenna
