Default torque converter unlocking after hitting 180 degrees

as title states. ive installed a tci 3500 ssf stall and large cooler. i also added a temp gauge in the side of the trans to keep an eye on my temps. car shifts great and pulls hard through all gears. when im cruising at a steady speed and there is no load on the tranny, it seems lockup is disehgaging and rpms climb 200-300rpm. if i touch the gas pedal at all it kicks back in. if i accelerate it kicks in and works fine until im at a steady speed again. lockup works perfect until it hits that 180 mark. any ideas? could it be the tcc solenoid or is the converter going bye bye? i know tci isnt the greatest but budget determined it at the time.

also im bypassing the radiator and going straight to the tranny cooler, should i reroute my lines through the radiator also?? anyone have a diagram on which way the flow should go?

thanks

did you have the trans tuned for the converter?

Wait is it when your transmission hits 180 degrees or when your motor hits 180 degrees?

Scan it to see if the pcm is unlocking it or its just the damn TCI clutch goin out. Look up the led mod from Frank at PB if you dont have or know someone that has tuning software. This will at least tell you if the pcm is commanding it to unlock. Do it quick though, don't want pieces of converter clutch circulating through your trans..

think ive come to the conclusion i have a crack in my lockup piston in the converter. once it gets to a certain temp and lockup engages, im losing pressure through the crack causing lockup to feel like its disengaging, once i throttle up, more pressure is applied???? does this sound possible? just a theory

If your driving with the stock tune and you have 3500 stall, then thats another problem. I didn't realize that until I read everything again. Your pcm could be detecting a misfire and unlocking it maybe. Could be fixed just by increasing the TCC duty cycle. Get it tuned first so you can at least rule that out, since you NEED a tune anyway.

Hmm..guess I didn't read everything

I used to run a PB lvl 1.. I would say scan it to see if the pcm is unlocking it. If not, well lots of folks have had issues with tci clutches.

If you have an internal weepage problem then the increased line
from more TPS (load) might outrun the torque increase. But you
need to know whether this is an unlock or just slip, and whether
it is intentional (TCC_Mode, TCC_Duty) or just a result of some
other thing.
