Default Does a lower STR result in torque multiplication for a longer period of time?

I realize that torque multiplication by a converter drops off pretty rapidly as rpms increase, but read that a lower STR results in torque multiplication for a longer period of time (higher rpms) than a higher STR, all else being equal (such as stall speed). Is this true? I guess I thought that torque multiplication, though decreasing, existed all the way through until converter lockup, and that a higher STR had more multiplication for the entire time.

According to materials on Yank's old web site the
lower STR brings a lower slope of coupling and a
more gradual loss of torque multiplication.

On their new site there is this:

Great info! Thanks. I missed it reading through Yank's website.

one reason i got a 1.7 str the other reason--i thought i would hook better with less of a hit to the dr's-- nope spins just as easy as a 2.0 converter i ues to have

Didnt think it was possible to get a 1.7STR 3800 converter. Whats it like on the road? Tight? Flashy? Slushy?

its a bit mushy and i really have to give it some gas to go. My tuning is not done yet(false missfire codes) so it doesnt lock up and i cruise around about 800 more rpm then i need to be. All in all i like it... I asked john if it was possiable to make it a 1.7 and he said yea, might be mushy but it will be more efficient then a 2.5.. Right now i kinda dont like it but its more due to the converter not locking all the time.. I was going to plan on 3.73's which would tighten it up a bit..

Ed, you're not thinking of getting a low STR converter are you? I really don't think you'd like it based on your previous comments. BTW, your old thinking about STR and torque multiplication sort of challenges conservation of energy laws.

Kurt, no, I am not planning on going with a lower stall. I am just further educating myself on what I have already bought. Unfortunately, the converter (SS3200) and a winter storm arrived on the same day, and now I need to wait until Spring to install....rats! And, many are the laws of physics I've been known to challenge. Take care.
