Let's hear about some electric fans guys. I need an electric fan set up for my 65 Lark. I am looking for OEM like reliability and ample cooling ability to run a/c on the street in Florida.
So, what is keeping you cool out there?

"best" is going to start an argument. But IMO a pull out fan and shroud from a Taurus is hard to beat. Less than $20 from a pick and pull, including relays. Fits my radiatior like it was made for it and keeps the motor at 165 degrees with only the low speed setting. And guaranteed OEM reliability because it is OEM.

Stock dual fans from LT1 and LS1 F-bodies are used pretty frequently. They move a lot of air and area OEM reliable for cooling V8 engines in cramped engine compartments. In their stock form, they mount directly to the radiator, so it is helpful to have a newer GM radiator installed (from an F-body or Corvette) so it has the appropriate hooks on the radiator tanks.
I've also heard that older Ford Taurus single fans have been used with some success on a lot of swaps, but I don't have any experience with them.

I have stock LS1 fans on my car and they cool it without any problem. There are about a dozen sets listed on ebay right now.

I agree with others in this thread. The stock f-body fans work well and are reliable, as well as the Taurus fans as many have good luck with them. If the budget allows I try and use dual pass radiators on customer cars as well. The dual pass style suits the LS1 well since the inlet and outlets are on the same side, eliminating the upper hose running across the engine compartment,. They also usually drop temps by 15-20* by slowing the coolant down and running it through the radiator twice. On the Chevelle we just finished we used one and with the A/C on and the car idling for 40 minutes in the direct 95* sun the highest registered coolant temp was 181*. With a 160 thermostat the car runs at 155-160 degrees running down the road in 90* plus days.
The fans used on it were very basic units from CSR (Maradyne)

Thank you bozzhawg, that is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. However, it might confirm that the fans could be too big for a Nova radiator, but I need to do some more measuring.
Also, my apologies to the thread starter for maybe getting a little off topic.

I am using a Mark VIII fan on a cheap universal fit radiator in my Chevelle. I was using a Dakota Digital fan controller and a 75amp relay. It worked great, I could see when they clicked on, and the temp fell instantly (I could watch the temp using the controller). The fans were rarely on for very long. Though that was with a small block. We'll see how they do with the lq4 soon enough.

Look at the Dodge Neon fans as well..... they flow well too....
The Mark VIII is a great option, it just draws alot at one time..... I run my fans on separate 30 amp relays and wired through the ecm ...... they each draw about 25-27 amps.....
Me personally I like the factory fans vs the aftermarket Spal, Be Cool, Derale, etc..... Most are over priced... I could not pay $400+ for some fans when they have factory fans that flow more cfm and cover more surface area than the high dollar after market.....
