5.3 "Squirter" Project test Rusted & Filled with Water. w/ Videos
Hello Gear Head and LS freaks!
I've got a project going on here that I figure some of you may fun or at least a little interesting.
I've taken a 5.3 that I was going to throw away because it was full of water and had two bad rusty cylinders. (See Video and pic) I didn't want to bore it because I already have flat top pistons and rings (besides I want to stay at 5.3L for this build). Then I got this crazy idea. Instead of recycling it, I'd sand the rust out, reassemble and run the motor on a running engine stand for my YouTube audience.

Everyone is interested to see how or if it'll run and how much smoke if any. They are also looking forward to seeing the complete set up on a stand so that they can see what it takes to make these LS engines run all laid out if front of them.
I've asked my viewers for donations to help me fund the projects since this is just my side hobby. We collected enough to get the engine back together and was also donated a PCM. Its looking great and the project is coming along. We still need some help to finish the project.

I'm going through and calculating all the donations we've received so that I can give yall a total. While adding, I came across a couple comments on the PayPal transactions that caught my attention. I really like the comment so I hope they don't mind me sharing them.

We are having great progress on project Squirter! I've already ordered the ProComp head studs and will buy the head gaskets soon. I've cleaned the block up some and a few other details. I'll make a video with the the next week to give everyone a detailed update.
I think some people attempting to donate left the "1" out of my email or maybe some other error. I know that some meant to donate but are working out that issue of sending it to the wrong email. The correct email is agearhead4life1@gmail.com

Here's the video of us rotating the long block with the starter to prime the oil. I'm in the process of making an external oil primer, but for the Squirters condition it probably didnt matter that much.

New Update video 7-24-2013
Started the day by swapping the cam in the Squirter. I noticed that the old cam was nasty with rust pits. I was worried that the lifters were probably pitted as well. I asked everyone if I should just run the new cam and risk damaging it or just run an inexpensive stock LS2 cam. I was just about to go with running the LS2 cam when my buddy Brad showed up.
I told him of the decision I was trying to make on the cam and he says lets check the lifters. I told him that I was not pulling and reinstalling the heads. He pops back with "I will". So after that we rode on his motivation. He pulled the heads, lifters had pits and we through in a good used set.
We reused the MLS head gasket. On the "eBay" heads, we noticed about four of the nuts didnt want to come off of the stud. So I recommend that ya'll might not want to torque them to the ARP recommended 80ft lb. Or it could have been my poor choice of thread sealer/lube. So when we torqued them back down we only went to 70ft lb.
I spilled oil everywhere lubing the studs and etc. We were curious to see if the reused head gaskets were ok and the head studs, so we put the intake and all back on so that we could start it up. Also, of course we wanted to hear that cam lope.

New installed cam is a Trick Flow cam TFS-30602003. Specs are; Dur: 228/230, Lift: 585/585, 112lsa
