Default My track/street 240sx LS Swap

Well I've been floating around on here doing research for a while now. So I finally decided that I should start my on build thread. I've had the car since last fall and have a hoard of pictures! SOOO for all of you who love pictures this thread is for you. But please bare with me as I try to catch up posting all of them.

But my car is a 1989 Nissan 240sx coupe, and here it is right when i picked it up

I managed to nab one with a fully functional HUD and digital speedo

So I started ripping the interior out

And I picked up an LS1 from a camaro for $500 with a spun rod bearing and started tearing it down

Got the front end torn off

Bye bye 4 cylinder

Front suspension removed

Rear suspension/subframe removed

Removed some more parts, its getting closer to a bare shell. I also got rid of some brackets in the engine bay I wont be needing.

Removed the dash and everything behind it

Looking pretty much like a bare shell now

Started removing sound deadening. Dry ice works like a charm!

Got it loaded up to head out and get sand blasted

Now for a look at some of those bearings, YUCK!

Now for the fun stuff! Who wants to see some go fast goodies and swap parts?

First off my lovely package from texas speed! PRC stage 2.5 5.3 heads, 228r cam, ported ls6 oil pump, hardened pushrods, ls2 lifter trays, and ls7 lifters.

Next I got my nasty crossmember all cleaned up

And here is the mount kit from Holley/Hooker Headers with poly mounts

And here is the canton swap oil pan

And here's the shell back from the sand blaster. And man can I say it does suck trying to clean the sand out of this thing!

And here it is after being sprayed in primer.

And back in the shop

And here is the bigger and much stronger Q45 LSD with J30 axles

The rear subframe with weld-in reinforcement plates

Got the T56 cleaned up a bit. (it was rattle canned black by the previous owner)

Got some more pieces sand blasted.

Thanks! And that is my Dad's shop, I'm very lucky to be able to use it. By far the best conditions I've ever had to work on a car.

Here is my Chase Bays conversion harness with dakota digital tach and speedo conversion boxes. This is one of the cleanest harnesses I've ever seen and am very happy with it.

Energy Suspension poly bushings for some of the rear suspension

Talked to a buddy down in Missouri who got his hads on a diff from over seas with a high capacity cover and he cant use it for what he is doing, so I am waiting for the cover in the mail to use on my car.

Here are my seats a seat brackets. I love the seats but hate hoe high the brackets put them. So I may be looking into alternative mounting options later down the road.

Nice work so far. I would love to have a shop like that too. 2 car garage just can't compare with that. What color are you planning on?

Thank. And I'm going for a satin black. I don't quite want flat but not gloss either so I'm going to try to land somewhere in between. The car will also have a rocket bunny wide body kit. Hopefully Ill have the rest of the pictures uploaded tonight so everything is up to date.

As I scroll throught the build I can't help but notice the awesomeness of the shop!...with attached stables. Very classy! Great build so far, looks like you are making progress.

the stronger part of the q45 diffs is the outputs and axles, which dont work with j30 axles.

Engine parts back from the machine shop

Spec stage 3 clutch next to the Fidanza flywheel

Checking out the mount kit with the crossmember. I will have to fab up a good skid plate... The oil pan just barely dips below the crossmember.

I am using a later year Q45 diff (97-01) so I wouldn't have to source a twin turbo 300zx axle shaft. The later year diffs can be used with 92-94 j30 axles. I have a 98 q45 diff and 93 j30 axles.

And thanks for all the comments guys. It's really appreciated, I'm getting close to having all the photos uploaded. And yeah like I said its a very nice shop. The bottom level is divided in half and one side if for horses and the other half is the car shop. The upper level is storage and my mom's art studio.
